Product description

A blue glass bottle with a white dropper is a ready-to-use packaging solution for small quantities of liquid preparations that are dispensed drop by drop. Blue glass filters part of the light, so contents that are sensitive to sunlight and daylight keep their original condition for longer. The dropper measures out exactly as much as you need, without your fingers touching the contents.

The 15 ml volume suits facial serums, facial oils, essential oil blends, tinctures and samples, where only a few drops are taken at a time. For larger doses, such as body oil, a bottle with a pump or a wider neck is more suitable.

What it is good for

  • Facial serums and oils – the dropper measures out a few drops onto the palm or directly onto the face, while the rest stays in the bottle, away from light and air.
  • Essential oil blends – diluted blends for a diffuser, a bath or massage are dispensed drop by drop, which is what the dropper is designed for.
  • Tinctures and herbal extracts in alcohol – the small volume and blue glass suit concentrated alcohol-based preparations that are diluted before use.
  • Samples and test batches – 15 ml is enough to try out a new recipe with a customer or to run your own stability test without wasting raw materials.

How the set works

The bottle is shaped like a medicine bottle, with a narrow neck onto which the dropper is screwed. The dropper consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb and a white PP cap with a tamper-evident ring. The ring separates when the bottle is opened for the first time, so the customer can see whether the packaging has already been opened. The length of the glass tube matches the height of the bottle, so the contents can still be drawn up when the level is low.

Dispensing depends on the thickness of the contents. Water-based and alcohol-based solutions, serums and lighter oils flow smoothly through the dropper. Thick oils, such as castor oil, or thickened serums are drawn up more slowly and drops form less easily. For such formulations, we recommend testing the dispensing before you fill the whole batch.

Volume and filling

The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is intended for under normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between the two is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which takes up part of the space once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes.

Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is filled to the top, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the dropper is inserted and get onto the thread, which then no longer seals properly.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the bottle would spoil an anhydrous oil as well as an alcohol tincture.

When dispensing, do not draw the contents all the way up into the silicone bulb. Liquid that remains in the bulb is difficult to clean out and returns to the bottle the next time you squeeze. For concentrated essential oils and strongly alcohol-based solutions, we recommend checking how the silicone and the PP cap behave with your specific formulation, as this varies with the composition.

Glass does not tolerate sudden changes in temperature. Before filling, let a hot mixture cool at least to a temperature at which the bottle can be held in the hand. After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. For the dropper, check that the bulb keeps its shape and the tube has no cracks.

The dropper has a declaration of suitability for contact with cosmetic products. No such declaration is available for the bottle itself, and the set as a whole is not declared for contact with food either. When using it for your own cosmetic products, we recommend checking how the packaging behaves with your specific recipe.

Blue glass filters light, not heat. Store a bottle with an oil serum or essential oils away from direct sun and sources of heat, so that the contents do not oxidise before they are used up.

Frequently asked questions

Does a blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, blue glass filters part of the light passing through and slows the changes that light causes in the contents. It is therefore suitable for oils, serums with active ingredients and essential oil blends. The glass does not protect against heat or air. For that, you need a suitable storage place and a tightly screwed-on dropper.
How much liquid actually fits into a 15 ml bottle?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 15 ml. The brimful capacity is larger, but the difference serves as a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle to the brim, the contents overflow through the neck when the dropper is screwed on and get onto the thread.
Is a dropper with a tamper-evident ring suitable for essential oils?
With diluted essential oil blends, the dropper works reliably. With concentrated essential oils, we recommend checking how the silicone bulb and the PP cap behave with your specific blend, because some components can affect plastics over the long term. The glass tube and the glass bottle are stable against essential oils.
Can a bottle with a dropper be used for an alcohol tincture?
Yes, glass resists alcohol and alcohol-based solutions are easily dispensed with a dropper. For long-term storage of strongly alcoholic tinctures, we recommend checking whether the alcohol affects the silicone bulb of the dropper. Do not draw the contents up into the bulb, so that no residues remain in it that return to the bottle the next time you squeeze.
How are the bottle and dropper cleaned before reuse?
Wash the bottle in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Rinse the dropper by drawing clean alcohol into the tube and expelling it, and wipe the bulb on the outside. Before filling again, check that the bulb keeps its shape and the tube is not cracked.
