Product description

This glass bottle with a black and gold dropper is designed for filling products that are dispensed drop by drop: face and body oils, oil serums, essential oil blends, herbal tinctures and alcohol extracts. The 100 ml volume is enough for a larger pack of oil or serum, and the dropper still lets you measure out an exact dose without spilling. The clear glass shows the colour and clarity of the contents, which you will appreciate with oil blends, where appearance is part of the result.

The set consists of a glass medicine bottle with an 18/410 neck finish and a dropper with the same thread, which fits the bottle directly and whose length is matched to the bottle height. Both the bottle and the dropper are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What it is good for

  • Oil serums and face oils – the dropper dispenses drop by drop, so the oil is applied precisely and without waste.
  • Essential oil blends – diluted blends for massage or the bath can be measured out from the dropper more precisely than from a bottle with an ordinary cap.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass is resistant to alcohol, and the contents can be measured out drop by drop.
  • Working stock in the workshop – ingredients that are added to a formulation in small amounts, for example essential oils or fragrance compositions.

How to fill and dispense

The bottle has a nominal volume of 100 ml, that is, the volume it is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is larger and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between the two values is a reserve for the dropper: once screwed in, the glass tube pushes the liquid level up, so the bottle is filled to the nominal volume and not to the neck. An overfilled bottle will leak through the thread when closed.

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. We recommend storing light-sensitive oils and serums in a box or in the dark, or choosing dark glass for them.

The dropper is operated by squeezing the bulb, immersing the tube in the contents and releasing. After application, push the rest of the liquid in the tube back into the bottle so that the contents do not remain in the dropper. We recommend carrying and storing the bottle with the dropper upright; the dropper is not designed for transport upside down.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Treat the glass tube of the dropper in the same way. It is enough to wipe the bulb with ethanol on the outside and inside and let it air out. Residual water in the tube or in the bottle would get into the oil, so it is worth letting everything dry thoroughly.

With undiluted essential oils, fragrance compositions and concentrated alcohol extracts, we recommend checking in advance how the bulb of the dropper behaves with your particular filling. Silicone and plastics react differently to different substances.

Glass withstands washing in hot water, but it should not be exposed to a sudden temperature difference, for example boiling water straight after taking it out of the cold. After washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. The dropper is a combination of glass, silicone, plastic and aluminium, so before each further use check that the bulb has not hardened and the tube is not cracked.

If you want to close the bottle in a different way, you will find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and the dispensing with your particular formulation. When sorting waste, the glass bottle belongs with glass; the dropper is separated from it.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear glass bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear glass lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. The 100 ml bottle with a dropper is therefore suitable for oils and serums that are stored in the dark or in a box, or for products that are not light-sensitive. For sensitive oil blends with essential oils, dark glass is more suitable.
How much does the dropper bottle actually hold?
It is filled to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is larger and forms a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper, which raises the liquid level once screwed in. An overfilled bottle will leak through the thread when closed, so it is filled leaving a gap below the neck.
Is the bottle and dropper set suitable for food?
The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact, but the dropper does not. If you need packaging for homemade oils or syrups, choose a bottle with a closure that is suitable for food use. For oils, serums and tinctures intended for the skin, this combination is declared suitable.
How do you clean the bottle with a dropper before reuse?
Wash the bottle in warm water with washing-up liquid, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Treat the glass tube of the dropper in the same way, and wipe the bulb with ethanol and let it air out. On reuse, check that the bulb has not hardened and the tube is not cracked. Residues of the previous filling or water would spoil the new contents.
Can I fill the glass bottle with a dropper with a tincture or an alcohol extract?
Yes, glass is resistant to alcohol, and tinctures can be dispensed conveniently drop by drop from the dropper. With concentrated alcohol extracts, we recommend checking in advance how the bulb of the dropper behaves with your particular filling, as it is made of silicone and plastic. Store the bottle with the dropper upright; it is not designed for transport upside down.
What other closure can be used on the 100 ml bottle?
Closures with an 18/410 neck finish fit the bottle, for example a cap or a sprayer with the same thread. You will find closures with this neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. With your own combination, we recommend checking the seal and the dispensing with your particular formulation, because oils, water-based toners and alcohol extracts behave differently in a sprayer or a dropper.
