Neossance™ Hemisqualane is an innovative, sustainable, lightweight, highly spreadable emollient ideal for natural cosmetic formulations. It is a perfect alternative to petroleum-based paraffins and silicone ingredients, while offering a great sensory profile (non-sticky, non-greasy and with a velvety finish).

Hemisqualane (or also hemisqualane, C13-15 Alkane) occurs naturally in the lipid layers of the skin, preventing transepidermal water loss and restoring skin elasticity. The human body produces it fully only up to the age of 20, after which its production decreases rapidly.

Hemisqualane, as well as squalane, are made from sugar cane and do not have a comedogenic effect. This means that they do not clog pores and thus help reduce acne and rash formation. Hemisqualane has a lower molecular weight than squalane and therefore produces a more pleasant and lighter feeling on the skin. It also has an antioxidant effect which helps in reducing wrinkles.

Hemisqualane is a non-polar, fully saturated and very stable hydrocarbon that is easily incorporated into emulsions and is compatible with most cosmetic ingredients. It is an excellent moisturizer that keeps skin and hair properly hydrated and adds elasticity to the skin.

It has a silky, smooth and elegant texture, with no greasiness or heavy feel, making it ideal for facial products as well as body lotions and creams or for use as a carrier oil. It is an ideal ingredient for hair products.

It is insoluble in water and soluble in oil and alcohol.
