Product description

Illipe Butter is a plant-based butter obtained from the seeds of the Shorea stenoptera tree, which originates from Southeast Asia, especially Borneo.
In cosmetic practice it is generally a fat obtained by pressing the seeds, subsequently often refined for more stable colour, lower aroma and easier processing in formulations.
Thanks to its naturally high content of saturated fatty acids, Illipe Butter has a firmer consistency, a higher melting point and is popular wherever a denser texture, good shape stability and a pleasant protective film on skin and hair are required.
In formulations it is often compared to cocoa butter, but is appreciated especially for its firm yet still well spreadable character, which helps create compact balms, sticks, body butters and protective emulsions.

Use in formulation

Commonly used at a concentration of approximately 3 – 15 % in emulsions and, depending on the type of formula, also at a higher proportion in balms, butters and sticks.
Is miscible with vegetable oils, other plant butters, waxes and oil esters.
Is compatible with common oil components of anhydrous and emulsion formulations.
When making emulsions it is usually incorporated into the heated oil phase, where it is allowed to melt completely.
In formulations it helps increase firmness, occlusivity and creaminess without a markedly sticky feel.
In lip products and solid balms it combines well with waxes and butters that need support for resistance to softening.

Safety and storage

Store in a tightly closed container, in a dry and cooler place, away from direct light and sources of heat.
During processing, pay attention to the cleanliness of working tools and hygiene to prevent contamination of the raw material.
Before use in a finished cosmetic product it is advisable to carry out a stability and compatibility test with the other components of the formula.
For sensitive skin it is recommended to carry out a tolerance test on a small area of skin.
