Product description

Carrageenan (E 407) is a thickening agent produced from the red seaweed Chondrus crispus, which is used as a thickening agent, gelling agent and stabilizer. Carrageenan is the vegan version of animal gelatin.

In cosmetics, it serves as an emulsifier. Due to its high content of minerals such as zinc, manganese, calcium and magnesium, it is an excellent means of nourishing the skin.
Gels with carrageenan are gentle and hydrate the skin and hair (in shampoos it facilitates combing of the hair, which then becomes smooth and shiny), it strengthens the hair structure and restores its elasticity.

It shows very good compatibility with surfactants, which makes it possible to create a foaming gel. It is stable over a wide pH range.
It is insoluble in cold water, but easily soluble in hot water (80-90°C), insoluble in organic solvents and vegetable oils.

There are three types of carrageenan: Kappa carrageenan has one sulfate disaccharide group, Iota carrageenan has two sulfates and Lambda carrageenan has three.

In our range you will find Kappa carrageenan.
