Product description

A bottle with a pump for products that are used repeatedly and dispensed by hand: shower gel, liquid soap, shampoo, body lotion, facial cleansing gel or massage oil. The clear wall shows the contents and the fill level, so you can see how much product is left. The bottle and pump are matched to each other, and the pump screws on without any further adjustment.

What the set is suitable for

  • Rinse-off bathroom products – shampoos, shower gels and liquid soaps, where a small amount is dispensed with a wet hand and a cap would get in the way.
  • Body lotions and light emulsions – thinner formulations pass through the pump smoothly.
  • Massage and body oils – the pump limits pouring out more than is needed.
  • Toners and micellar waters – water-based products are dispensed directly onto a cotton pad or into the palm.

How the pump works

The pump delivers a dose of approximately 1 ml per press. With a 150 ml fill, this gives roughly 150 doses; the actual number depends on the thickness of the product and on how thoroughly the bottle is emptied. The dip tube is supplied longer than the height of the bottle. Before first use, it is therefore trimmed so that it ends just above the bottom and also draws up the remaining contents. After filling, prime the pump by pressing it several times until the dip tube and the mechanism fill with product.

Trim the dip tube with a sharp, slightly slanted cut so that the end does not stick to the bottom of the bottle. A tube cut too short leaves an unused layer of product at the bottom, while one that is too long bends inside the bottle and the pump then draws in air.

The pump is designed for liquid to medium-thick products. Thick creams, body butters or gels with high viscosity pass through it with difficulty, the dose is smaller and the mechanism is strained. Before filling a larger batch, we therefore recommend testing on one bottle whether your formulation passes through the pump and whether the dose is what you intended.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The total brimful volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is larger. The difference is a reserve for the pump, which takes up space in the neck once screwed on, for the dip tube, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If you fill up to the neck, the product will be pushed out when the pump is screwed on.

Good to know

Preparation before first filling. Rinse the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Flush the pump by pressing it several times in a container of clean water and then of alcohol. Residual moisture in the dip tube would otherwise dilute the first doses.

Reuse. Once empty, the set can be washed and refilled. Switch to a different product only after rinsing thoroughly; with fragranced products, the fragrance of the previous contents may remain in the mechanism.

Do not expose the packaging to aggressive chemicals. For products with a higher proportion of essential oils, alcohol or other solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of both the bottle and the pump in advance with your specific formulation on one piece.

Light. Clear plastic does not protect the contents from light. Light-sensitive products, for example those with unstable plant extracts or with oils prone to oxidation, should be filled into clear packaging only if it will be stored out of direct sunlight. A dark bottle is safer for such formulations.

Contact with cosmetics and food. Both the bottle and the pump are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set is not intended for food.

Closures. You can find other closures with the same neck type, as well as ready-made combinations of the bottle with a different closure, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend testing the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Recycling. The bottle is made of PET and the pump combines polypropylene and aluminium, so separate the two parts before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Does the clear plastic 150 ml bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. It is suitable for products that are not affected by light, such as shower gels, shampoos or liquid soaps, and for those that will stand in a cabinet or in a shaded place. It is safer to fill formulations with oils prone to oxidation or with light-sensitive ingredients into a dark bottle.
Can a thick cream or body butter be dispensed through the 24/410 pump?
A thick cream passes through the pump with difficulty and a body butter practically not at all. The pump, with a dose of approximately 1 ml, is designed for liquid and medium-thick products, that is, lotions, light emulsions, gels, oils and water-based toners. For thicker formulations, try one bottle first, or choose a jar.
How much product should be filled into the 150 ml bottle with a pump?
Fill to the nominal volume of 150 ml, not to the brim of the bottle. The remaining space up to the neck is a reserve for the pump and the dip tube, which take up part of the volume once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents in a warmer environment. If you fill up to the neck, the product is pushed out when the pump is screwed in and the neck stays soiled.
How do I prepare the bottle with a pump before first filling?
Rinse the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely upside down. Flush the pump with several presses in clean water and then in alcohol, so that the mechanism and the dip tube are cleaned as well. Trim the dip tube before fitting it so that it ends just above the bottom of the bottle, and after filling press the pump several times until it starts to dispense.
Is the 150 ml plastic bottle with a pump suitable for oils or alcohol-based products?
For common massage and body oils, yes, the pump dispenses them without problems. For alcohol-based products and formulations with a higher content of essential oils, we recommend testing the behaviour of the packaging on one piece, because the packaging should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals and solvents. Fill a larger batch only after testing.
