Product description

Tocopherol (vitamin E) is a natural antioxidant of plant origin, obtained by gentle distillation and concentration from GMO-free sunflower oil (Helianthus annuus). This type of tocopherol belongs to the naturally occurring forms of vitamin E and is characterized by a high content of the biologically most active α-tocopherol (more than 90%). The main function of tocopherol in cosmetics is to protect the skin and the formulation itself against oxidative stress. It neutralizes free radicals, helps protect skin cells against premature aging, and at the same time stabilizes oils and active ingredients prone to oxidation. Thanks to its natural compatibility, it is ideal for modern natural, vegan and COSMOS-compatible cosmetics.

Composition

  • Tocopherol (natural mixture of isomers with > 90% α-tocopherol)
  • Sunflower oil (Helianthus annuus) – natural carrier

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

What is tocopherol and what is its function in cosmetics?

Tocopherol is a natural form of vitamin E that acts as a powerful antioxidant in cosmetics. It protects the skin from free radicals and at the same time stabilizes the oily components of the formulation.

Is tocopherol an antioxidant?

Yes, tocopherol is among the most widely used natural antioxidants in cosmetics and is known for its ability to protect cells against oxidative stress.

What is the difference between natural and synthetic vitamin E?

Natural tocopherol contains the biologically active form α-tocopherol, which is more effective for the skin than synthetic racemic mixtures.

What are antioxidants in cosmetics?

Antioxidants are substances that protect the skin and cosmetic products from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. They help slow down skin aging and increase the stability of formulations.

What is the difference between natural and synthetic tocopherol and how can they be distinguished?

Natural tocopherol is referred to as α-tocopherol (d-alpha-tocopherol) and is obtained from vegetable oils, most often from sunflower (Helianthus annuus), soybean (Glycine max) or rapeseed (Brassica napus). It is the biologically active form of vitamin E that the skin can naturally recognize and use effectively. Synthetic tocopherol is referred to as DL-alpha-tocopherol. It is produced by chemical synthesis and represents a so-called racemic mixture of different isomers, of which only a part has biological activity. For this reason, its effect on the skin is weaker compared to the natural form. The simplest way to distinguish these two forms is to look at the designation: the names “alpha-tocopherol” or “d-alpha-tocopherol” indicate natural origin, whereas the designation “DL-alpha-tocopherol” always means a synthetic form of vitamin E. An important guideline is also the origin of the raw material – natural tocopherol is usually declared as of plant origin and is accepted in natural and certified cosmetics.
