Product description
The white glass medicine bottle with a volume of 100 ml and a white lotion pump is designed for emulsions, body lotions, serums and gels that are dispensed by pressing, without unscrewing the cap. The opaque white glass shields the contents from light, which you will appreciate with formulations containing oils prone to oxidation or active ingredients that lose their effectiveness in light. Each press dispenses a small measured amount, so the product is used evenly and no one has to dip their fingers into the whole volume.
The bottle and the pump are supplied as a matched set, so you do not need to choose a closure for the medicine bottle separately. Both parts are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the set is intended for cosmetics. You will find the declaration of conformity with the product.
What the set is suited for
- Thinner and medium-thick emulsions – face creams of a lighter consistency, body lotions, hand creams or after-sun lotions. The pump draws them up through a dip tube from the bottom of the bottle and dispenses them evenly.
- Serums and gels – a small dose suits products applied in an amount of a few drops, for example facial serums with hyaluronic acid or eye-area gels.
- Oil serums and oil blends – pure vegetable oils are dispensed with the pump without dripping down the neck.
- Light-sensitive formulations – products with unstable oils, plant extracts or vitamins, where clear glass would speed up changes in colour and fragrance.
Dispensing and working with the pump
One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml. For a facial serum, 1–2 presses are usually enough, while for a body lotion a few presses are needed. The pump must be primed before first use. After fitting, the dip tube is empty and the product starts to come out only after several presses.
Whether the pump works depends on the consistency of the contents. Solid creams, butters and balms cannot be drawn up through the dip tube and will block the pump. Very thin liquids, for example toners or hydrosols, tend to pour out of a lotion pump rather than be measured. A fine mist sprayer is more suitable for them.
Check the dispensing on a small test batch before you fill the whole series. An emulsion that seems liquid in a jar may thicken after a few days, and the pump will stop drawing it up. A product that is too thin, on the other hand, runs out in a larger amount than necessary with a single press.
Filling and the difference between the volumes
The nominal volume of 100 ml is the volume for which the medicine bottle is designed in normal filling. The brimful capacity given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them provides room for the dip tube of the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume. If it were filled to the brim, the contents would be pushed out through the neck when the pump is fitted.
Fill the emulsion only after it has cooled to room temperature, and fit the pump only onto cooled contents.
Good to know
Before the first filling, we recommend washing the bottle and the pump, disinfecting them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving them to dry completely. Rinse the dip tube of the pump by pumping the disinfectant solution through it, followed by clean water.
The glass medicine bottle can be refilled without limit. The pump can be cleaned by pumping warm water through it. If residues of the previous formulation remain in it, it is more reliable to use a new one for a new product. The last millilitres of the contents, which the dip tube can no longer reach, remain at the bottom of the bottle.
The pump is made of polypropylene. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or alcohol, we recommend checking the behaviour of the plastic parts directly with the finished formulation, as with any custom combination of packaging and closure. After the contents have been used up, the glass and the pump are separated. The bottle belongs in glass recycling, the pump in plastics.
