Xanthan gum is a natural polysaccharide formed by fermentation of sugars by the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris. It is subsequently precipitated, dried and milled into a fine powder that is fully soluble in water (cold and hot). In formulations it acts as a thickener, stabilizer and rheology modifier with shear-thinning behavior for a pleasant application.

How to prevent lumps during mixing?Slowly sprinkle xanthan gum into rapidly stirred water or first disperse it in a small amount of glycerin and then pour into the aqueous phase.
Is it also suitable for “natural” cosmetics?Yes, it is a fermentation polysaccharide commonly used in natural and “clean” formulations.
In which systems does it work best?In aqueous systems and O/W emulsions (thickens the aqueous phase, improves stability and suspends particles).
