Xanthan gum is a natural polysaccharide produced by the fermentation of sugars by the bacterium Xanthomonas campestris. It is then precipitated, dried and ground into a fine powder that is completely soluble in water (both cold and warm). In formulations, it acts as a thickener, stabilizer and rheological modifier with shear-thinning behavior for a pleasant application.
Raw material safety grade according to EWG: 1 (low risk)
How to prevent lumps when mixing?Slowly add Xanthan gum to rapidly stirred water or disperse it first in a small amount of glycerin and then pour it into the aqueous phase.
Is it also suitable for "natural" cosmetics?Yes, it is a fermentable polysaccharide commonly used in natural and "clean" formulations.
In what systems does it work best?In aqueous and O/W emulsions (thickens the aqueous phase, improves stability and suspends particles).
