Product description
The aluminium bottle with silver pump, 50 ml is a ready-made combination of packaging and closure for liquid and semi-liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed by pressing: body lotion, light creams, facial oils, liquid soap in a small pack, or travel shampoo and conditioner. Aluminium is lightweight and unbreakable. It does not let light through, so light-sensitive contents are protected even though the packaging is light. The pump is clear with a glossy silver collar that matches the silver finish of the bottle. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics; it is not intended for food.
What the set is suitable for
Fifty millilitres is a volume suited to travel packs, samples, or a smaller batch that you want to test before filling larger packaging. The pump is worthwhile wherever a product is used repeatedly and should be dispensed in measured doses without opening the bottle.
- Body and facial lotions – light emulsions pass through the dip tube and are dispensed with a single press, without fingers touching the contents.
- Facial and body oils – the contents do not spill or run down the neck, which is a common problem with oils in bottles with an ordinary cap.
- Liquid soap and hand gel – a travel or gift pack, or a sample to go with a larger product.
- Travel shampoo and conditioner – an unbreakable bottle in your luggage and dispensing without spills.
- Samples and test batches – a small volume for checking the recipe, stability, and behaviour in the packaging.
How the pump works
The pump draws the contents up through the dip tube and dispenses approximately 0.65 ml of product with one press. The amount is the same with every press, which makes it easier to estimate consumption and to dispense the product during use. When using it for the first time, press the pump several times until the dip tube fills and the product starts to come out.
The pump handles liquid and medium-thick formulations. Thick creams, butters, or gels with high viscosity may not be drawn up, or may be dispensed incompletely, and the pump may become blocked over time. The limit depends on the specific recipe and the temperature, so we cannot state it in general terms.
Before filling an entire batch, fill one bottle and leave it standing for a few days. Check whether the pump dispenses the product evenly, whether it becomes blocked while standing, and whether the packaging leaks when pressed.
Nominal and total volume
The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling, in this case 50 ml. The total brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the dip tube and the pump mechanism, which take up part of the space once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim.
Good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and leave them to dry completely. Draw the disinfectant through the pump by pressing it several times, then let it drain with the dip tube pointing downwards. Residual water in the bottle or in the dip tube can affect the stability of the product.
- Aluminium and water-based formulations – for water-based recipes, especially acidic or alkaline ones, we recommend checking how the packaging behaves with the specific product over time. Anhydrous products and oils are less demanding in this respect.
- Filling temperature – let the product cool before filling. Warm contents expand, and after cooling a vacuum may form in the bottle, which impairs dispensing.
- Transport – before travelling, check that the pump is not pressed down in your luggage, and where necessary carry the bottle in a resealable bag.
- Reuse – the bottle can be used again after washing and disinfection. The dip tube and the pump mechanism are harder to clean thoroughly. When changing the product, rinse them and let them dry; if residues of the old contents remain, it is better to replace the pump.
- Recycling – an aluminium bottle belongs with metals, while the pump has plastic parts and a metal collar, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.
Aluminium is opaque, so you cannot see the level of the contents. When filling, use a measuring cup or scales so that you do not exceed the nominal volume and leave a reserve for the pump’s dip tube.
