Product description

This 30 ml glass bottle with a black dropper is a set for facial serums, oil blends, diluted essential oils and tinctures that are dispensed drop by drop. The amber glass protects the contents from light, so it suits formulations containing ingredients that light can damage. Both the bottle and the dropper have a matte finish. You measure the contents directly from the bottle, without pouring them out and without your fingers touching the neck. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial serums and oil serums – the dropper measures out a small amount, which you apply to the face or the décolleté.
  • Essential oil blends and fragrance blends – the glass tube of the dropper also withstands concentrated fragrance components, and diluted blends in a carrier oil are particularly suitable.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass resists alcohol, and dropwise dispensing matches the usual way tinctures are used.
  • Samples and test batches – with a volume of 30 ml, you can try out a formulation before making a larger quantity.

How to use the dropper

The dropper consists of a glass tube, a silicone bulb and a plastic threaded ring that screws onto the neck of the bottle. Squeezing and releasing the bulb fills the tube, and the contents are then pushed out drop by drop. The size of the drop depends on the viscosity of the contents. Thin oils and alcohol solutions give smaller drops, thicker serums give larger ones, so check the number of drops per dose with your specific formulation.

After measuring, squeeze the remainder out of the tube back into the bottle. This way the contents do not stay in contact with the bulb, and the dropper is easier to keep clean.

The length of the dropper is matched to this bottle, and the tube reaches almost to the bottom. You can therefore use up the contents even at a low level, without tilting the bottle.

Nominal volume and brimful capacity

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them provides a reserve for the submerged tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume. If you filled it to the brim, the contents would be pushed out through the neck when you screwed on the dropper.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the tube could dilute anhydrous contents or disturb the stability of an emulsion.
  • Reuse – the glass bottle can be refilled without limit. Before reusing the dropper, check that the bulb keeps its shape and that the tube has no chipped edge.
  • Glass and temperature – fill with contents that have cooled down. A hot oil phase or solution poured into cold glass can crack the bottle.
  • Closures – the dropper is part of the set. You can find other closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper consists of plastic, glass and silicone, so separate its parts before disposal.

Store the bottle with the dropper upright. If it lies on its side for long periods or is transported lying down, the contents stay in contact with the silicone bulb, which is not good for the bulb when the contents are concentrated essential oils.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber glass bottle with a dropper protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass limits the light reaching the contents. A dark container slows the oxidation of oils and the breakdown of light-sensitive active ingredients, but it does not replace an antioxidant or a preservative in the formulation. Still, keep the bottle out of direct sunlight.
How many ml can you actually fill into a 30 ml glass bottle with a dropper?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 30 ml, not to the brim. The remaining space up to the neck provides a reserve for the tube of the dropper, which is submerged in the contents once it is screwed on, and for the expansion of the liquid with temperature changes. The brimful capacity is given in the parameters.
Is the glass bottle with a dropper suitable for essential oils?
Yes, both the glass of the bottle and the tube of the dropper withstand essential oils and alcohol-based contents. With concentrated essential oils, squeeze the remainder out of the tube back into the bottle after each dispensing and store the bottle upright, so that the contents are not in long contact with the silicone bulb. With diluted blends in a carrier oil, this limitation hardly matters.
Is the glass bottle with a dropper suitable for hydrosols and water-based toners?
A dropper is less suitable for hydrosols and toners, because these products are applied in larger amounts and are usually sprayed. A dropper makes sense for water-based serums that are dispensed drop by drop. For toners, a fine mist sprayer with the same neck type is a better fit, and you can find it in the Handymade range.
Can the glass bottle with a dropper be reused?
Yes, you can refill the glass bottle without limit after washing and disinfecting it. You can use the dropper again if the bulb is elastic and the tube is intact. When you change the contents, for example from a fragrance blend to a facial serum, rinse the tube thoroughly so that residues of the previous contents are not carried over into the new formulation.
