Product description

The amber glass medicine bottle, 30 ml, is supplied as a ready-made set with a plastic dropper insert and a white cap. It is intended for filling with serums, facial oils and other liquid cosmetic products that are dispensed by the drop. Amber glass protects the contents from light, so the bottle is suitable for formulations with light-sensitive active ingredients and for oil blends prone to oxidation.

The 30 ml volume corresponds to a common size for a facial serum or facial oil. It is also enough for samples and trial batches, where the behaviour of a formulation is first tested in a smaller quantity. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics, and the declaration of conformity is available with the product.

What it is used for

  • Facial serums – water-based and oil-based serums with active ingredients, which are applied in small amounts and are well suited to dispensing by the drop.
  • Facial and body oils – blends of vegetable oils, optionally with added essential oils; dark glass slows their degradation caused by light.
  • Oils for cuticles, beard and hair ends – small doses applied directly where needed, without fingers coming into contact with the contents of the bottle.
  • Trial batches – when fine-tuning a formulation, a smaller volume is filled and the fragrance, colour and texture are observed in the packaging in which the product will actually be used.

How the set works

The bottle is filled without the dropper insert. After filling, the dropper insert is pressed into the neck, where it holds firmly, and the assembly is closed with a cap with an 18/410 neck finish. When using it, simply tilt the bottle; the contents flow out drop by drop and are not poured out all at once.

The cap serves as the closure and protects the dropper insert from contamination. If you prefer a different way of dispensing, you will find closures with the same neck type in the Handymade range, together with other ready-made combinations. For your own combination, we recommend checking in advance the tightness and behaviour of the closure with your specific formulation.

Volume and filling

The page gives two volume figures, and the difference between them is of practical importance. The nominal volume is the quantity the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total volume to the brim given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference provides a reserve for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the space once inserted, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature.

Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is filled up to the neck, the dropper insert pushes the contents out when it is pressed in, the neck stays greasy or sticky and the cap is harder to tighten.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, dropper insert and cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual moisture is undesirable in an anhydrous oil-based product and increases the preservation requirements in a water-based serum.

The dropping speed depends on the viscosity of the contents. Thin oils and water-based serums flow smoothly, while thicker blends, for example those containing castor oil or thickened serums, drip more slowly. Test this on a small sample before filling the whole batch.

Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well. Let the contents cool before filling and do not expose the bottle to direct heat or frost. The dropper insert is made of polypropylene and the cap of polyethylene, so with concentrated essential oils or solvents, check how they behave in contact with your specific formulation.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the bottle can be reused. When switching to a different product, we recommend replacing the dropper insert, because oil residues in the narrow tube are difficult to clean. For disposal, glass belongs in glass waste and the dropper insert and cap in plastics, so separate them before throwing them away.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 30 ml amber medicine bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber glass blocks a large part of the light. For serums with vitamin C, retinoids or plant extracts, and for oils prone to oxidation, dark packaging is more suitable than clear glass. Protection from light does not replace an antioxidant or preservation, which are a matter for the formulation itself.
How much actually fits into a 30 ml medicine bottle with a dropper insert?
Fill it to the nominal volume, that is 30 ml. The physical volume of the bottle to the brim is larger, and the exact figure is given in the parameters. The reserve is left free for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the space once inserted into the neck, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Filling to the brim leads to overflow when closing.
Is the medicine bottle set with a dropper insert suitable for both water-based serums and oils?
Yes, glass is suitable for water-based, alcohol-based and oil-based cosmetic products. The dropper insert and cap are made of plastic, so with a higher proportion of essential oils or alcohol, we recommend testing their behaviour on a sample. Thicker blends flow more slowly through the dropper insert, so for thick serums or butters a different type of closure is more suitable.
How is a medicine bottle with a dropper insert cleaned, and can it be used again?
After washing, disinfecting with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and drying completely, you can use the bottle again. We recommend replacing the dropper insert when you change the contents, because oil residues in its narrow channel are difficult to remove and could affect the fragrance or stability of the new product. The cap only needs to be washed and dried.
Can a closure other than the cap with a dropper insert be used with an 18/410 medicine bottle?
Yes, an 18/410 neck finish is a common size, and in the Handymade range you will find other closures with the same neck type as well as ready-made combinations. For your own assembly, we recommend checking the tightness on a filled bottle, especially with oils, which creep along the thread if the joint is not tight.
