Product description
This set of a matte glass medicine bottle with a volume of 30 ml, a long plastic dropper insert and a white ribbed safety cap is designed for drop-by-drop dispensing and also protects the contents from light. Amber glass blocks a large part of the light radiation and the matte surface dampens it further, which helps to maintain the stability of light-sensitive ingredients, for example vegetable oils, essential oils or serums with vitamins.
It is suitable for facial serums, oil blends for the face and cuticles, blends of essential oils in a carrier oil and other preparations where precise dispensing of a small amount matters. All three components of the set are declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and you will find the declarations of conformity with the product. The set is not approved for contact with food.
How the set works
The dropper insert, which covers the whole opening, is pressed into the neck of the bottle with an 18/410 neck finish. When you tilt the bottle, the contents flow through a narrow channel and drip out drop by drop, and you control the dispensing speed by the angle of tilt. The long version of the dropper insert reaches deeper into the neck and holds firmly even with repeated opening.
The cap is screwed on over the dropper insert and tightened against the neck, which ensures a tight seal when carrying the bottle in a bag or when sending it to customers. The ribbed surface makes it easier to grip, even with oily fingers. The safety mechanism on the cap is a protective feature of the closure that producers selling finished products will particularly appreciate.
What it is suitable for
- Facial and hair serums – oil-based and water-based serums are dispensed drop by drop straight into the palm or onto the skin, without fingers touching the contents of the bottle.
- Essential oil blends – massage blends, fragrance compositions for a diffuser or oil blends for pulse points, where you count in drops.
- Nail and beard oils – the small volume corresponds to the daily use of a few drops, so the contents can be used up before they lose freshness.
- Alcohol-based cosmetic extracts – alcohol does not damage glass and the amber colour protects the contents from light.
- Samples and test batches – a volume of 30 ml is enough for trying out a recipe or for samples for customers.
Volume and filling
The nominal volume is the volume for which the packaging is intended with normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between these values is a reserve for the dropper insert, which pushes part of the air out of the neck when pressed in, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature.
Fill up to the nominal volume of 30 ml, never to the brim. An overfilled bottle overflows when the dropper insert is inserted and the contents get onto the thread, where they then work against the seal of the cap.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, rinse it and disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, then let it dry completely with the neck facing down. It is enough to rinse the dropper insert and the cap with alcohol and let the alcohol evaporate. Residual moisture in an oil-based product encourages the growth of microorganisms, so this preparation should not be skipped.
Glass withstands the filling of warm contents, but not sudden changes in temperature. Let an oil blend cool down to at least lukewarm before filling and never pour hot contents into a cold bottle. The dropper insert made of polypropylene and the cap made of polyethylene are plastic parts. With concentrated blends of essential oils or with contents containing solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the plastic with your specific recipe over several weeks.
The dropper insert dispenses oil-based and thicker contents most precisely. With very thin water-based products, such as toners or hydrosols, the contents flow out faster and dispensing drop by drop is less controlled.
The bottle can be reused. After it is emptied, wash it with warm water and washing-up liquid, remove any oil residues and disinfect it again. After longer use with oils, we recommend replacing the dropper insert with a new one, as small residues in the channel are difficult to clean. Glass belongs in glass recycling and the dropper insert and cap in plastic recycling.
Closures and dropper inserts with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, and other ready-made combinations, can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
