Bakuchi Oil, Cold Pressed, 50 ml

Bakuchi oil, LZS introduces plant-based bakuchiol into the formulation directly in the oil, not as an isolate. It is cold-pressed from the seeds of Psoralea corylifolia grown in Asia. In the formulation, it acts as an active ingredient as well as an emollient. It contains at least 10 % bakuchiol, a substance valued in skincare cosmetics for mature skin, skin with loss of elasticity, and with the first signs of wrinkles.

The manufacturer attributes antioxidant activity, support for collagen synthesis, and a soothing effect on reddened skin to this oil. According to their data, the oil absorbs quickly and leaves no greasy film on the skin. It is also suitable for skin prone to acne. Beyond the face, it is used on the body, hair and scalp, in both leave-on and rinse-off products. The raw material is vegan and contains no palm oil derivatives.

Use in formulation

The oil is soluble in oils and insoluble in water. It belongs to the oil phase, but in emulsions it is added during the cooling phase or incorporated into the finished base afterwards. In anhydrous products such as facial and body oils or oil serums, it is simply blended with the other oils at room temperature. In wax-based balms, the melted mass is allowed to partially cool first, and Bakuchi oil is added just before pouring.

The recommended dosage range is wide, 1 – 100 %. In emulsions and serums it forms the active portion of the oil phase; in facial and body oils it can make up the entire formulation or the majority of it. The amount is chosen based on the desired bakuchiol concentration in the finished product and the expected skin feel.

In water-based products without oil, such as facial mists and toners, it can only be incorporated using a solubiliser or as part of a light emulsion. Compatibility with common cosmetic raw materials is unrestricted; however, we recommend verifying behaviour in a specific formulation through a stability test.

Good to know

The base of the oil consists of unsaturated fatty acids. Linoleic acid predominates (32 – 68 %), followed by oleic acid (19 – 42 %) and smaller proportions of palmitic, stearic and linolenic acid. This profile gives the oil a lighter consistency. For formulations with a longer usage period, we recommend adding an antioxidant, such as Tocopherol, and filling the finished product into dark or opaque packaging.

The colour of the oil is golden yellow to light brown, and the scent is characteristic, earthy to nutty. In white emulsions at higher dosages, the oil may slightly shift the shade towards yellow, and its scent will be noticeable in unscented products. It is worth accounting for this when selecting a fragrance composition.

The oil is not classified as hazardous and contains none of the fragrance allergens subject to labelling. The raw material is of plant origin with no animal-derived components and is suitable for vegan formulations.
