Product description
The glass bottle with a dropper insert and cap is a ready-made set for filling with facial oils, oil serums and tinctures. Blue glass lets through less light than clear glass, so it suits light-sensitive contents, for example blends of carrier oils with essential oils. The long dropper insert seated in the neck dispenses the contents drop by drop, and the white ribbed tamper-evident cap shows whether the bottle has already been opened. The set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products; you will find the declaration of conformity with the product.
What the set includes
- Glass bottle, medicine bottle – blue glass with a nominal volume of 100 ml and an 18/410 neck. Medicine bottle refers to a bottle shape with a straight body and a narrower neck, into which the dropper insert is pressed.
- Plastic dropper insert, long – a clear insert made of polypropylene. When you tilt the bottle, it dispenses the contents drop by drop and prevents a larger amount from pouring out at once.
- Plastic tamper-evident cap – a white ribbed closure made of polyethylene. The ribs give your fingers a grip when unscrewing, and the tamper-evident ring separates on first opening and stays on the neck.
What it is suitable for
Drop-by-drop dispensing makes sense for liquid preparations that are applied in small amounts. These include facial and hair oils, oil serums, massage blends, blends of carrier oil with essential oils, tinctures and alcohol extracts. Low-viscosity water-based serums also pass through the dropper insert. Thick gels, emulsions and butters get stuck in the dropper insert, so for such textures a different type of closure with the same neck is more suitable.
The 100 ml volume suits body and massage oils or a larger pack of tincture. For facial serums that are used up slowly, consider whether the contents will keep unchanged in an opened bottle until the end of the pack.
Filling and volume
The nominal volume is the volume the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the rim of the neck. The difference leaves room for the dropper insert, which is pressed into the neck, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume only. A bottle filled to the brim will overflow when the dropper insert is seated and soil the thread, and the cap will then not seat cleanly.
Seat the dropper insert only after filling the bottle. Press it in straight and evenly around the whole circumference until it sits on the neck, and tighten the cap by hand. Tightening with a tool puts unnecessary strain on the thread and the tamper-evident ring.
Good to know
Before the first filling, we recommend washing the bottle, dropper insert and cap, rinsing them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and letting them dry completely. Residual water would show up as cloudiness in oil-based contents.
Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes well. Do not pour hot contents into a cold bottle, and do not leave a filled bottle in direct sunlight. Blue glass dampens light, but not heat. The polypropylene dropper insert and polyethylene cap tolerate common cosmetic oils and alcohol extracts without problems. With concentrated essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking the behaviour of both plastic parts in advance with your specific formulation.
The dropper insert can be removed from the neck, but after repeated reinsertion it may sit more loosely. When refilling repeatedly, check that it sits firmly and that the bottle does not leak when turned over.
You can find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations of bottle and closure in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your formulation. At the end of its life, the glass belongs in glass recycling, and the dropper insert and cap go separately with plastics.
