Blue Glass Bottle, White Tamper Evident Safety Cap & Dropper, 10 ml

This 10 ml blue glass bottle comes as a ready-made set with a plastic dropper insert and a white ribbed safety cap. The contents are dispensed drop by drop, which makes it suitable for essential oils, fragrance compositions, perfume blends in oil or alcohol, and facial or massage oils in small packs. Blue glass limits the amount of light reaching the contents and does not react with essential oils or alcohol-based solutions. All three parts of the set are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

How the set works

Once the bottle has been filled, the dropper insert is pressed into the neck. When the bottle is tilted or turned upside down, the insert releases the contents through a narrow opening one drop at a time, so even very small amounts can be measured without a measuring cup. The cap with an 18/410 neck finish screws on over the dropper insert, holds it in place and seals the bottle. The ribbed surface of the cap makes it easier to unscrew even with oily fingers, which is not unusual when working with oils.

What it is suitable for

• Essential oils and fragrance compositions – dispensing drop by drop matches the way essential oils are usually measured into formulations, while the blue glass limits the effect of light.
• Essential oil blends in a carrier oil – massage or aromatherapy blends in small volumes.
• Facial and hair oils – thin oils, such as jojoba or apricot kernel oil, drip steadily. Thick oils and butters flow through the dropper insert slowly.
• Perfume oils and alcohol-based solutions – glass is resistant to alcohol, so the bottle is also suitable for alcohol-based perfumes or tinctures for cosmetic use.
• Samples and test batches – 10 ml is enough to test a fragrance in soap or a candle, or to try out a new blend before a larger production run.

Nominal volume and brimful capacity

The nominal volume of 10 ml is the amount the bottle is designed to hold when filled normally. The brimful capacity is the physical volume right up to the neck and is higher. The difference provides room for the dropper insert, which takes up part of the space in the neck once pressed in, and for the contents to expand with changes in temperature. If the bottle is filled to the brim, pressing in the dropper insert pushes some of the contents out and soils the thread, which impairs the seal of the cap.

What to know when filling

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and both plastic parts, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Any residual water would separate out in oil-based contents and could encourage the growth of microorganisms.

After washing, the bottle can be reused. If you intend to fill it with a different fragrance, we recommend replacing the dropper insert with a new one so that the original fragrance does not mix with the new one. The dropper insert is made of polypropylene (PP) and the cap of polyethylene (PE). With concentrated essential oils, citrus essential oils or solvents, it is advisable to test how the plastic parts behave with the specific contents in one bottle before filling the whole series. The glass itself does not react with these substances.
