Product description

A glass bottle with a white dropper is a ready-made set for dispensing liquid cosmetic preparations drop by drop. It consists of a clear glass vial with a nominal volume of 100 ml and a white dropper with a security ring. Simply fill it, close it, and it is ready for use or sale.

It is particularly suitable for facial and hair oils, serums, tinctures and oil extracts — that is, for preparations applied in small, precise amounts. Glass does not react with the contents and does not absorb scents. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

Why the combination of a clear bottle and a dropper

  • Precise dosing – with the dropper you take exactly as many drops of the preparation as needed. With concentrated serums and oils, small amounts are used and every drop counts.
  • Hygienic use – the contents are not scooped out with fingers or poured over the neck, so fewer contaminants get into the bottle.
  • Security ring – when opened for the first time, the ring on the dropper separates, so both the customer and the manufacturer can immediately see whether the product has already been opened. For retail products, this is a simple tamper-evidence protection.
  • Visible contents – through the clear glass you can see the colour, clarity and remaining amount of the preparation. This is useful for coloured oils and extracts and wherever the appearance of the contents is part of the product.
  • Glass as a material – it is chemically stable and can be washed and disinfected repeatedly.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume for which the bottle is intended for normal filling. The total volume up to the brim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference between them forms the headspace for the dropper, which after closing pushes some of the contents upward, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The exact values of both volumes are stated in the product parameters.

When filling, leave free space in the neck. If the bottle is filled to the brim, inserting the dropper will cause the contents to overflow and the neck will remain greasy, which impairs the seal and soils the label.

How to work with the set

After filling, the dropper is screwed onto the bottle neck and tightened by hand. The length of the glass tube corresponds to the height of the bottle, so the contents can be drawn from the bottom as well. When dispensing, the bulb is squeezed, the tube is immersed in the contents, and upon release it fills up. The contents are then dispensed drop by drop onto the palm or directly onto the skin.

The set is intended for storage and transport in an upright position. When stored on its side or during transport, we recommend verifying the seal with the specific formulation, especially for very fluid oils and alcohol-based preparations. Droppers and other closures with the same thread type (stated in the parameters) and other ready-made combinations are available in the Handymade range. When combining components yourself, we recommend verifying the seal, dosing and the behaviour of the packaging with the specific contents.

Suitable for products such as

  • Facial and hair oils – drop dosing is natural for oils; a few drops are sufficient for a single application.
  • Oil and water serums – including serums with hyaluronic acid or plant extracts, where an accurate dose matters.
  • Oil extracts and macerations – the 100 ml volume suits a larger batch from your own production as well as retail.
  • Tinctures and alcohol-based preparations – glass tolerates alcohol; however, we recommend testing the behaviour of the dropper bulb with the specific contents beforehand.
  • Nail and beard oils, treatment blends – the dropper makes application to a small area easier.

What is good to know

Clear glass does not protect the contents from light. Preparations sensitive to light, such as oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, essential oils or certain active ingredients, should be stored in a clear bottle away from direct sunlight, or amber or blue glass should be chosen instead. For preparations where the appearance of the contents matters and which are stored in the dark, clear glass is a good choice.

Before first filling, we recommend washing and rinsing both the bottle and the dropper, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, and allowing to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based preparation can cause cloudiness or microbial growth.

The bulb and plastic parts of the dropper may react with higher concentrations of essential oils, solvents or certain fragrance compositions — for example, they may soften or swell. With such contents, we recommend carrying out a test and monitoring the dropper over several weeks.

Repeated use: the bottle can simply be washed and disinfected again. The dropper can also be washed; however, once the security ring has been broken, it no longer provides tamper evidence, so a new dropper is used for retail products.

Food contact: a certificate for direct food contact applies to the glass bottle alone. The dropper does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

Temperature: glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Hot contents should be allowed to cool before filling, and the bottle should not be moved from a cold environment directly into hot water.

Label: the cylindrical shape of the bottle makes applying labels easier. With oily contents, it is worth choosing a label and adhesive resistant to grease.

Recycling: the bottle goes into glass recycling. The dropper is a combination of plastic, silicone and glass and should be separated from the bottle before disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Is the clear glass bottle with a dropper suitable for light-sensitive oils?
Clear glass does not protect the contents from light, so for light-sensitive oils and serums, storage in the dark or amber or blue glass is recommended. If the preparation is kept in a cupboard or box and used within a normal timeframe, a clear bottle is fine and also shows the colour and clarity of the contents.
How much fits in the 100 ml glass bottle with a dropper?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, i.e. 100 ml, not to the brim. The total volume up to the neck is larger, but this space is reserved for the dropper, which pushes the contents upward after closing, and for the expansion of the preparation when the temperature changes. The exact values are given in the product parameters.
Can the glass bottle with a dropper be reused?
Yes, the glass bottle can be washed, disinfected and refilled without restriction. The dropper can also be washed and used again; however, once opened for the first time, the security ring is no longer functional. For products intended for sale, it is therefore recommended to use a new dropper with the cleaned bottle.
Is the glass bottle with a dropper suitable for alcohol tinctures and preparations with essential oils?
Glass tolerates both alcohol and oil-based contents; the dropper requires more attention. Its bulb and plastic parts may soften or swell at higher concentrations of essential oils or solvents. With such preparations, we recommend testing with the specific contents and monitoring the dropper over several weeks.
Is this dropper set approved for food contact?
The set as a whole is not; it is intended for cosmetic products. A certificate for direct food contact applies to the glass bottle alone; the dropper does not have one. If you need packaging for food use, opt for the bottle on its own with a closure that has a food-contact certificate.
What does the security ring on the dropper mean?
The security ring is tamper evidence. When the dropper is unscrewed for the first time, the ring separates from the closure and remains on the neck, making it visible that the product has already been opened. This gives customers of retail cosmetic products assurance that they received an unopened product.
