Product description

The clear plastic bottle with a volume of 100 ml and a white cap with a tamper-evident ring is packaging for liquid products that are dispensed by pouring or measured into the palm: facial toners, hydrosols, micellar waters, hair tonics, body oils and massage oils. Clear PET shows the colour and clarity of the contents, weighs little and does not break, so it also suits travel sizes, customer samples and products sent by post. The set is approved for direct food contact, so it can equally be used for homemade oils, syrups, herbal infusions or flavoured vinegar. Suitability for cosmetics is declared for both the bottle and the cap.

How the cap with a tamper-evident ring works

The cap screws onto the neck with an 18 mm thread, which the bottle and the closure in this set share. When the bottle is opened for the first time, the tamper-evident ring separates from the cap and cannot be returned to its original state. Whoever picks up the bottle can see at once whether anyone has opened it before. When selling your own cosmetics or food, this is a simple proof that the contents have not been tampered with, without any additional foil or seal. Once the ring is torn off, the cap continues to seal like an ordinary screw closure and the bottle can be opened and closed repeatedly.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 100 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. Physically, more fits into it up to the neck. The difference provides a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes, for example during transport in summer. Fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. An overfilled bottle pushes part of the contents into the thread when the cap is screwed on; the closure then becomes sticky and may leak when the bottle is turned upside down.

For serial production, it is worth filling by weight on a scale rather than by eye. Calculate the weight of one fill from the volume and density of your formulation. The fills are then the same in every bottle and there is no risk of overfilling.

What it is suitable for

  • Water-based products – toners, hydrosols, micellar waters and hair tonics. They are poured into the palm or onto a cotton pad, and a plain cap without a pump is enough.
  • Oil-based products – facial, body, massage and make-up removing oils. The colour of the oil and any cloudiness can be seen through the clear wall.
  • Bath products – bath oils and liquid bath additives, which are measured out in larger amounts at a time.
  • Food – herbal and fruit syrups, flavoured oils and vinegars, infusions.
  • Samples and travel sizes – a small volume easily fits into a handbag and the plastic withstands impact.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water would dilute an anhydrous oil product and needlessly burden the preservative system of a water-based product. The narrow neck is easy to fill through a funnel.

PET is not intended for hot filling. Let syrups, infusions and boiled water phases cool to room temperature before pouring, as warm contents would deform the wall. The material should also not be exposed to aggressive chemicals. For products with a high proportion of alcohol or concentrated essential oils, we recommend filling one bottle first and observing for several weeks whether the wall softens, turns matte or changes shape.

The clear wall offers the contents no protection from light. Store oils prone to oxidation, coloured extracts and products with essential oils away from direct light, or choose an amber or blue bottle for them.

After washing, the bottle can be reused, but the tamper-evident ring is not restored. A replacement cap or another closure for a neck of the same type is available separately in the Handymade range. If you combine components yourself, we recommend checking the seal with your specific formulation. An empty, rinsed bottle belongs in plastic recycling as PET.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear plastic 100 ml bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. It is suitable for products that are not sensitive to light, or for those stored in a box or cabinet. For oils prone to yellowing, products with essential oils and coloured plant extracts, an amber or blue bottle is more suitable.
How much fits into a plastic bottle with a nominal volume of 100 ml?
The bottle is designed for 100 ml of contents, and somewhat more physically fits up to the neck. The extra space is a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the liquid when the temperature changes. Fill to 100 ml. If it is overfilled, the contents are pushed into the thread when the cap is screwed on, and the cap then becomes sticky or leaks.
Is a clear PET bottle suitable for both oils and water-based products?
Yes, common vegetable oils, hydrosols, toners and micellar waters can be kept in it without problems. Caution is advisable with products that have a high proportion of alcohol or concentrated essential oils, which may damage the plastic over time. For such products, we recommend a trial filling of one bottle and observing the wall for several weeks.
Is the 100 ml plastic bottle with a tamper-evident cap suitable for food?
Yes, both the bottle and the cap have a certificate for direct food contact, so the set can be used for syrups, flavoured oils, vinegars and herbal infusions. The contents must be poured in cooled, as PET is not intended for hot filling. Before use, wash the packaging and let it dry, just as for cosmetics.
Can a plastic bottle with a tamper-evident ring be reused?
Yes, after it has been emptied, washed and disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol, the bottle can be filled again. The tamper-evident ring on the cap separates after the first opening and no longer signals anything, but the cap continues to seal like an ordinary screw closure. For a new batch with tamper evidence, a new cap with a tamper-evident ring for an 18 mm neck is required.
