Product description

The clear 100 ml PET bottle with a black screw cap is designed for cosmetics that are dispensed by pouring: face and hair oils, hydrolates, toners, massage oils, liquid soaps or travel shampoos. The clear material shows the colour and purity of the contents, so it suits products where you want to see what is inside. The plastic is light and unbreakable, so the bottle holds up in the bathroom, on the road and when sending out samples. The bottle and cap set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

  • Oils and oil blends – face, body and massage oils are poured in small amounts from the narrow neck, and you can see through the clear wall how much is left.
  • Hydrolates and toners – water-based products without a sprayer, applied to a cotton pad or into the palm.
  • Liquid soaps and shampoos – a travel pack or a sample for a customer. After use, the bottle can be closed and used again.
  • Carriers and bases – small amounts of vegetable oils, glycerine or diluted surfactants, which the maker prepares in advance and sets aside for a formulation.

Cap and dispensing

The black cap with an 18/410 neck finish screws onto the neck of the bottle without tools and withstands repeated opening. The contents are dispensed by pouring; the cap has no dispensing opening. The inner liner sits against the rim of the neck and seals the bottle, which you will appreciate with liquid contents, especially when carrying it.

Before closing the bottle for the first time, check that the liner in the cap is held in place, and tighten the cap by hand without excessive force. If it is overtightened, the thread on the plastic neck may become deformed and the bottle will then seal less well.

Filling and volume

The 100 ml figure is the nominal volume, that is, the amount the bottle is designed for under normal filling. The total volume up to the brim of the neck is larger. The difference serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes, so the bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the rim. Pour thicker products, for example liquid soap with a thickener, slowly so that air bubbles do not form in the narrow neck.

Before the first filling, wash and disinfect the bottle and the cap and let them dry completely. Traces of water in an oil-based product shorten its shelf life, and in a water-based product they put a strain on the preservative system.

The bottle is not intended for filling with hot contents and should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals. Let the product cool to room temperature before filling. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend testing how the material behaves on a single bottle before you fill the whole batch.

Good to know

A clear bottle does not protect the contents from light. Light-sensitive products, for example oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids or vitamin C serums, belong in dark packaging or at least in a box, away from direct sunlight.

The bottle withstands repeated use. After emptying, wash it with warm water and a small amount of surfactant, rinse it, disinfect it and let it dry with the neck facing down. Clean the cap separately so that no water remains under the liner. You can find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of this bottle with other closures in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend testing the seal and dispensing with your specific formulation.

After thorough washing, both the PET bottle and the PP cap belong in sorted plastic waste according to the rules in your municipality.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 100 ml clear plastic bottle with cap suitable for cosmetics?
Yes, the bottle and cap set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. It suits oils, hydrolates, toners, liquid soaps and other liquid products that are dispensed by pouring. The bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the set with this cap is intended for cosmetics as a whole.
Does the clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. For light-sensitive products, for example oils prone to oxidation or serums with unstable active ingredients, it is better to use dark glass, or to keep the clear bottle in a box and away from direct sunlight.
How much does a bottle with a nominal volume of 100 ml actually hold?
The bottle is designed to be filled with 100 ml of product; physically, more fits in up to the brim of the neck. The difference is a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. It is filled to the nominal volume so that the product is not pushed out when the bottle is closed and does not leak when it is carried.
Can the PET bottle be used for a hydrolate or a toner containing alcohol?
Water-based products and hydrolates can be filled into the bottle without restriction. For toners and tinctures with a higher proportion of alcohol or with concentrated essential oils, we recommend testing how the plastic behaves on a single filled bottle before the whole batch is filled. The storage parameters state that the bottle should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals.
How are the bottle and cap cleaned before filling and repeated use?
Before the first filling, the bottle and the cap are washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. For repeated use, the bottle is washed with warm water and surfactant, rinsed and dried with the neck facing down. The cap is cleaned separately so that no water remains under the liner, which could get into the next product.
