We recommend trimming the wooden wick so that only a short part of the wick remains above the surface of the solidified wax, usually a few millimetres depending on the container diameter and the wax used. A wick that is too long can cause excessive smoking or an uneven flame, while a wick that is too short may be more difficult to light. It is always advisable to make a test candle and try out the optimal wick length for your specific formulation and container type.

Wooden wicks are generally used with various types of waxes, such as natural, vegetable and paraffin waxes or their blends. In view of the different densities and melting points of individual waxes, it is always necessary to make a test pour of the candle, check the burning behaviour and, if necessary, adjust the wick length or choose a different wick type and size from the range. By testing you ensure that the flame is stable and that the wax melts the surface of the candle evenly.

Candle containers such as glass vials, pots or jars can be reused if hygiene principles are observed. Before refilling, wax residues must be removed, the container must be mechanically cleaned and then disinfected, for example using products such as IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96 % denatured vegetable. Wooden wicks are a material intended rather for single use in a specific candle – for a new candle we recommend using a new wick so that the burning is stable and safe.

If you decide not to reuse the packaging from candles, we recommend that, after removing wax and wick residues, you place it in the appropriate recycling stream according to the material specified in the parameters of the particular product on the website. Glass containers are usually sorted into the glass container, plastic packaging into the relevant plastic collection and metal components, for example wick holders, into metal waste, if the sorting system in your area allows this. Always follow local waste collection rules and the recommendations for individual materials given in the parameter table for the product.
