Crackling wooden wick 6 × 0.4 mm is specially designed for the production of designer candles in various types of containers, such as glass vials, jars, pots or other decorative containers. Thanks to its shape and material, it provides a stable and even burning effect, suitable for candles made from both natural and synthetic waxes. When burning, it creates a characteristic gentle crackling sound reminiscent of a fireplace and enhances the experience of using the candle.
The wooden wick is intended for use in container candles and is combined mainly with suitably selected packaging – glass vials, jars and pots, which after pouring the candle are usually not closed with dispensers or pumps. When choosing a specific container, we recommend paying attention to the diameter of the packaging, the type of wax and the required flame size.
The packaging intended for candles that you can find on Handymade is designed so that, in combination with a suitable wick, it is functional and safe when used correctly. However, for all combinations we always recommend carrying out your own compatibility test – checking the burning of the wick in the specific wax, the behaviour of the flame in the chosen container and the overall stability of the candle while burning.
All technical parameters of the packaging are given in the attached Packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.
Always adapt the choice of wick to the diameter of the container and the type of wax. For wider jars it may be appropriate to use several wicks side by side, while for narrower medicine bottles and vials one wooden wick in the centre is usually sufficient. Before final production we recommend making a test pour and letting the candle burn through in several cycles in order to verify the even melting of the wax, the flame height and safe burning in the specific container.
The wooden wick can be adapted to the container and the height of the candle by shortening it. Most often it is shortened with scissors or a sharp knife, ideally after the candle has completely cooled down. For the first use we recommend leaving sufficient length for easy lighting and then, after test burning, adjusting the final length so that the flame is neither too high nor too weak.
Containers in which you use a wooden wick can be reused, provided that hygiene principles are observed. After the candle has burned out, remove the remaining wax, mechanically clean the inside of the packaging and then always wash and disinfect the container thoroughly before refilling it. For disinfection we recommend using the products IPA 99 – isopropyl alcohol or ethanol 96 % denatured, which you can find in our range: IPA 99 isopropyl alkohol 1 l and Etanol 96 denaturovaný rastlinný 1 l. Packaging prepared in this way is suitable for further safe use in candle production.
If you decide not to reuse the packaging after the candle, we recommend recycling it in accordance with the rules given for the specific type of container in the product parameters. Glass vials, medicine bottles and jars should be placed, after thorough removal of wax and metal or wooden parts, in the separated glass collection. Plastic pots and lids should be sorted according to the type of plastic indicated on the packaging label. The wooden wick and the remains of metal holders belong in mixed waste, or in metal waste if this is permitted in your sorting system. Always follow local waste sorting rules.
The simplest way is to use the advanced filter in the packaging category. After clicking on the relevant category at the top of the page, a filter will appear in which you can narrow down the selection according to parameters such as neck, size, colour or material. In this way you can quickly find suitable vials, jars or pots for your candles and other products and then combine them with a suitable type of wick and accessories.
