Crackling wooden wick 6 x 0.4 mm short is a special type of wick designed for hand-poured candles, which creates a gentle crackling effect during burning, reminiscent of wood crackling in a fireplace. It is suitable for various types of containers – from glass bottles and vials to decorative jars and pots – and makes it possible to create visually interesting candles with a natural flame and a pleasant atmosphere.
Thanks to the stable wooden material, the wick does not deform during burning like classic braided wicks, it keeps its shape well in different containers and is ideal for making candles from vegetable, paraffin and blended waxes. A properly selected and poured wick supports even burning and the aesthetic use of a wide range of packaging, from simple glass containers to design-oriented packaging solutions.
Wooden wicks are intended primarily for filling into open containers – candle jars, pots and bottles without closure during burning. However, when designing the final product, it is also advisable to consider the way the finished candle will be closed (for example decorative lids or flip-top covers), so that the packaging is protected during storage and transport.
The bottles, vials or jars used as candle containers themselves are compatible with various types of closures and dispensing options (for example screw caps, droppers, spray heads or practical applicators) according to the selected parameters of the given container. The packaging and closure combinations that are created directly on Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend carrying out your own compatibility test (tightness, dosing and behaviour of the packaging in contact with the specific formulation or wax).
All technical parameters of the packaging are listed in the attached packaging Quality Certificate and in the product parameters.
The choice of the length and number of wooden wicks depends on the diameter and shape of the container, as well as on the type of wax. For wider containers it may be necessary to use two wicks side by side in order to achieve even burning. We recommend starting by testing on a smaller test batch and monitoring whether the wax melts evenly all the way to the edge of the container without excessive smoking or overburning. Whenever you change the wax, fragrance or container, it is advisable to carry out a new burn test.
The wooden wick should be fixed into a metal or wooden holder intended for wicks, and this holder should then be glued to the bottom of the container using a heat-resistant adhesive pad or a suitable adhesive intended for candles. The wick must be placed as precisely as possible in the centre of the container so that burning proceeds evenly. After pouring the wax, it is important to check whether it remains upright and does not lean towards the wall of the container.
The packaging can be reused, provided that hygiene principles are followed, either for another candle or for other cosmetic or decorative purposes. Before reuse, the packaging must be thoroughly cleaned of wax residues and then disinfected with a suitable agent, for example with isopropyl alcohol or denatured plant ethanol. Only after it has completely dried and passed a visual inspection without damage is the packaging ready for refilling.
If you decide not to use the packaging further after the candle has burned down, we recommend recycling it according to the material specified in the parameters of the specific product. Glass bottles, vials and jars belong, after being cleaned of wax, in the glass container. Plastic containers should be placed in sorted plastic waste, if this is indicated on the packaging label, and metal parts (for example lids or wick holders) should go to metal collection. By following these rules, you support the responsible use of resources and minimise waste.
To select suitable packaging, you can use the extended filter located at the top of the page after clicking on the relevant packaging category. In the filter you can set parameters such as neck type, size, colour and packaging material, which allows you to quickly find bottles, vials, jars or pots that best correspond to your product and the chosen wick type. We recommend combining filtering with your own testing to verify that the packaging is also suitable for the specific composition of the wax or cosmetic product.
