Product description

White birch hydrosol is a gentle botanical hydrosol obtained from the plant Betula alba. Hydrosols are produced during the steam distillation of plant material, during which the steam is enriched with naturally present water‑soluble aromatic and accompanying plant constituents. After condensation, an aqueous phase with a delicate botanical profile is formed, which is particularly suitable for the water phase of cosmetic formulations.
White birch is valued in cosmetics especially in products intended for a fresh appearance of the skin, a light, non‑greasy skin feel and care of the scalp. This hydrosol is suitable as a functional replacement for part or all of the water in the formulation, especially in products where a subtle botanical character, good tolerability and easy incorporation into the water phase are desired.

Key benefits

  • Botanical hydrosol in organic quality suitable for natural cosmetics.
  • Helps formulate products focusing on a fresh, light and non‑greasy feel on the skin.
  • Suitable for cosmetics for normal, combination and oilier skin.
  • Can be used in products for the scalp, hair tonics and both rinse‑off and leave‑on products.
  • Has a delicate botanical character, therefore it is also suitable for formulations without strong fragrance.
  • Misceable with water and easy to incorporate into the water phase of cosmetic products.
  • Suitable as a partial or complete replacement for demineralised water in products with a higher botanical value of the water phase.

Suitable for products such as

  • Facial toners and refreshing facial waters.
  • Hydrating mists for face and body.
  • Light water‑based facial serums.
  • Gels used after facial cleansing or after shaving.
  • Hair tonics and scalp lotions.
  • Shampoos, hair waters and rinse‑off hair care products.
  • Cream, milk or fluid‑type emulsions, where it can replace part of the water phase.
  • Clay masks, powder masks and blends activated by an aqueous component.
  • Gentle water‑based cleansing products.

Use in formulation

  • The hydrosol is water‑soluble and miscible with the water phase of cosmetic formulas.
  • It is compatible with common water‑soluble humectants such as glycerin, betaine, panthenol, aloe vera juice or hyaluronic acid.
  • In emulsions, it can replace part or all of the water phase, depending on the character of the formulation.
  • In leave‑on products, it is used mainly as a base for toners, mists, serums and hair waters.
  • In rinse‑off products, it is suitable for shampoos, cleansing gels and hair rinses.
  • It is recommended to add it during the cooling phase (at a temperature below 40 °C).
  • In formulations with clays or powder ingredients, it can serve as the activating aqueous component instead of plain water.
  • When manufacturing, always take into account the overall preservative system of the finished product and the final pH of the formulation.

Safety and storage

  • Intended for cosmetic use as a raw material for further processing.
  • Store in a well‑closed container, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
  • Use clean tools during handling and observe good manufacturing hygiene in order to minimise the risk of secondary contamination.
  • For sensitive skin, we recommend testing the finished product on a small area of skin.
  • Hydrosols are aqueous raw materials, therefore a suitably designed preservation system is important when they are used in finished cosmetics.
  • Avoid contact with eyes unless the finished product is formulated and tested for use around the eye area.
