Glass bottle, glossy black, white-gold dropper, 100 ml is a ready-made set for dispensing liquid cosmetics drop by drop. Opaque black glass protects the contents from light, which is appreciated for serums, facial oils and blends with sensitive active ingredients that lose their efficacy or change colour in light. The dropper with a glass tube and flexible bulb measures out small quantities precisely and without finger contact with the contents. The set is therefore particularly suitable for facial and oil serums, massage and beard oils, active ingredient concentrates and tinctures.

The set is intended for cosmetics. The glass bottle alone holds a food-contact certificate; the dropper does not, so the set as a whole is not intended for food use.

What the set offers

• Protection of contents from light – opaque black glass prevents light from reaching the contents, making it suitable for preparations with vegetable oils, vitamins or essential oils that would oxidise more quickly in a clear container.
• Precise dispensing – the dropper draws the contents out drop by drop, which corresponds to the typical application of serums and oils to the face. The length of the dropper tube is matched to the height of the bottle, reaching almost to the bottom, so the contents can be drawn even at a low level.
• Glass as a non-reactive material – glass does not react with oils, alcohol or most cosmetic ingredients and does not absorb odours.
• Distinctive appearance – the glossy black surface with the white-gold dropper suits products where the packaging is meant to distinguish a product line or brand. A light or gold label stands out well on the black surface.

Nominal and total volume

The set is listed with a nominal volume of 100 ml. This is the volume the bottle is designed for in standard filling. The total volume to the rim is the physical capacity of the bottle up to the neck and is slightly larger; the exact value is given in the specifications. The difference provides a margin for the glass tube of the dropper, which pushes some of the contents upwards when screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the rim.

Suitable contents

The dropper handles liquid to slightly viscous contents well: aqueous and alcoholic tonics, facial oils, oil serums, blends of carrier and essential oil, low-viscosity moisturising serums and tinctures. Thick gels and creams are drawn in poorly by the bulb and drops do not form evenly. For these, a pump or jar is more appropriate.

For preparations with a high proportion of essential oils or with solvents, we recommend checking the behaviour of the bulb and dropper seal with the finished formulation. Glass and the glass tube have no issues with such contents; plastic and silicone parts may soften or swell after prolonged contact.

Use in production

Before the first filling, wash and disinfect both the bottle and the dropper with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Water residues in an oil-based product promote microbial growth and shorten its shelf life. Fill using a funnel or dispensing bottle so that the contents do not run down the thread. A contaminated thread impairs the seal.

Tighten the dropper by hand without force. The collar is metal; glass will not give way under excessive tightening and may crack. The bottle is heavier than a plastic alternative of the same volume, which should be taken into account for postage and packaging.

Labelling and reuse

The glossy black surface is smooth and flat; labels adhere well to it provided the bottle is degreased before application. Once the contents have been used up, the bottle can be washed with warm water and washing-up liquid, rinsed and disinfected again. When changing the type of contents, for example from an essential oil blend to an aqueous serum, thorough removal of any remaining scent is necessary. When recycling, the bottle goes with glass; the dropper is made of multiple materials and should be separated from the bottle before disposal.
