Product description

The black glass bottle with cream dispenser is a complete packaging and closure set for 100 ml of cream, facial or body emulsion, thicker serum or gel. The glass bottle in a vial shape and the plastic cream dispenser with a black top are designed for contents that should be dispensed hygienically, in small amounts and without fingers touching the product.

Black glass is opaque, so unlike clear or amber glass it does not let light through to the contents. It is therefore suitable for formulations with vegetable oils, vitamins, extracts or essential oils that lose efficacy or change colour in light.

Key benefits

  • Light protection – opaque black glass prevents light from reaching the contents and helps extend the stability of sensitive ingredients, particularly oils and active substances prone to oxidation.
  • Hygienic dispensing – contents come out only when the dispenser is pressed; the user's fingers do not touch the remaining product. This reduces the risk of introducing microorganisms into the emulsion during use.
  • Controlled dosage – each press releases approximately the same small amount, making it easier to apply facial creams and serums and preventing waste.
  • Inert material – glass does not react with the contents, does not affect their scent or composition and is not affected by essential oils or alcohol, which is appreciated in natural cosmetics with a higher proportion of active ingredients.
  • Appearance for a finished product – glossy black glass with a black dispenser forms a uniform, understated packaging suitable for private label. No additional decorative element is needed after labelling.

What products the set is suitable for

The cream dispenser is designed for contents of medium to higher viscosity that cannot simply be poured from the bottle. Particularly suitable are:

  • facial creams and emulsions of O/W type and lighter W/O, day and night creams, eye area and décolleté creams,
  • thicker serums and gel creams with hydrating or firming active ingredients,
  • body lotions and body creams in smaller packaging, for example for hands or feet,
  • creamy cleansing products and masks dispensed in smaller amounts,
  • creamy make-up bases and tinted creams, where opaque glass protects both pigments and oils.

The set is not suitable for watery tonics, hydrolats or liquid oils. Thin contents flow uncontrollably from a cream dispenser and the mechanism cannot hold a dose. For such formulations, bottles with a spray, dropper or liquid dispenser are more appropriate.

Nominal and total volume

The bottle has a nominal volume of 100 ml, which corresponds to standard filling. The total volume to the brim is the physical capacity up to the neck. The difference between them forms a reserve for the tube and the dispenser body, which occupy part of the space after screwing on, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Otherwise, after fitting the dispenser, the contents will be pushed out through the neck.

When filling emulsions, fill the bottle only after it has fully cooled and set. A cream filled warm will change volume as it cools. An air gap will then remain in the bottle, or conversely the contents will overflow when screwing on the dispenser.

What is good to know about filling and using

Preparation before first filling. We recommend washing the bottle and dispenser before use, disinfecting with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leaving them to dry completely. Residual water in the tube can dilute the first doses of the product and, in emulsions without adequate preservation, impair their stability.

Dip tube. The dispenser is fitted with a tube that should reach just above the bottom of the bottle. If it hits the bottom and bends after fitting, shorten it with a sharp knife or scissors using a diagonal cut. A diagonal end will not create a seal against the bottom of the bottle and the dispenser will draw out even the last of the contents.

Priming the dispenser. After filling, the dispenser needs to be pressed several times until the tube and mechanism are filled with product. The first presses may come out empty – this is normal behaviour for any dispenser.

Viscosity of contents. The dispenser works reliably with creams and emulsions that are easy to spread. Very thick body butters, balms with a higher wax content or products that solidify in the cold cannot be drawn up by the dispenser. Contents with coarser particles (scrubs, grainy masks) that clog the valve are equally unsuitable.

The dispenser is made of polypropylene. For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, solvents or alcohol, we recommend testing the behaviour of the dispenser with the specific formulation. Glass itself tolerates such contents without any issues, but the dispenser mechanism has not been tested with them over the long term.

Closures and combinations. The set is supplied with the dispenser that belongs to the bottle. If you want to use the bottle with a different closure, suitable closures have the same neck type and ready-made bottle + closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing behaviour with the specific formulation.

Labelling. The smooth glossy surface of the glass is easy to label. On a black background, labels with light printing or transparent labels with white text work best.

Contact with cosmetics and food. The set as a whole is declared as suitable for use with cosmetic products. The glass bottle alone holds a certificate for direct contact with food. The cream dispenser does not have such an assessment, so the complete set is not intended for food use.

Reuse and recycling. The glass bottle can be reused after thorough washing and disinfection. When changing contents, it is recommended to replace the dispenser, as residues of the previous product in the tube and valve are difficult to remove. At the end of its service life, glass belongs in the sorted glass collection; the dispenser is unscrewed and sorted as plastic.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, black glass is opaque and does not let light through to the contents. Unlike clear or amber glass, it protects the entire contents regardless of where the bottle stands. It is therefore suitable for creams and serums with oils, vitamins, extracts and essential oils that oxidise, change colour or lose their scent in light.
Is the set with a cream dispenser suitable for liquid serums and oils?
No, the cream dispenser is designed for contents of medium to higher viscosity. Thin serums, hydrolats, tonics or vegetable oils flow uncontrollably from it and the mechanism cannot release a consistent dose. For liquid products we recommend bottles with a dropper, spray or a dispenser designed for liquids.
How much cream fits in the 100 ml glass bottle with dispenser?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 100 ml. The total volume to the rim is slightly larger, but this headspace is taken up by the tube with the dispenser body and the space for expansion of the contents. If filled right up to the neck, the cream would overflow when the dispenser is screwed on, so it is filled only to the nominal value.
How to prepare the glass bottle and dispenser before first filling?
Before first filling, wash the bottle and dispenser, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave to dry completely. Residual water in the tube will dilute the first doses of product and in emulsions can impair microbiological stability. Before fitting the dispenser, check that the tube reaches just above the bottom and does not bend.
Can the glass bottle with dispenser be used for food?
The set as a whole is not intended for food use. The glass bottle alone holds a certificate for direct contact with food, but the cream dispenser does not have such an assessment. The bottle + dispenser set is declared as suitable for use with cosmetic products and we recommend using it for this purpose.
Why doesn't the cream dispenser dispense product after filling?
The dispenser needs several presses before first use until the tube and valve are filled with contents. If it still does not dispense, the cause is usually contents that are too thick to be drawn up, a tube pressed against the bottom of the bottle, or particles in the product that have clogged the valve. Shortening the tube with a diagonal cut or adjusting the viscosity of the formulation may help.
