Product description

Glass bottle, glossy black, white dropper 100 ml is a ready-made combination of an opaque glass bottle and a white dropper with a tamper-evident ring, ready to be filled without any further search for a closure. The black glass does not let light through, so the contents are protected better than in a brown or blue bottle, and the dropper allows precise dosing drop by drop. It is suited above all to facial and oil serums, oil blends, tinctures and concentrated active preparations, where protection from light and measured dosing matter.

The 100 ml volume is larger than is common for dropper bottles. It is therefore suitable for products with higher daily consumption, such as body oil blends, massage or hair oils, or for laboratory and workshop use, where fragrance compositions, essential oils or concentrates are dosed drop by drop into a larger formulation.

Why black glass and a dropper

  • Complete protection from light – black glass is opaque, so the contents are not exposed to visible or UV light. You will appreciate this with ingredients sensitive to oxidation, such as plant oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, serums with vitamins or retinoids, and essential oils.
  • Chemical stability of glass – glass does not react with oils, alcohol or most active substances and does not take on odour. For perfume blends, tinctures and concentrates it is more reliable than plastic packaging.
  • Precise dosing – the glass dropper tube with a silicone bulb draws up the contents and releases them drop by drop. With serums and concentrates this means less waste and a more hygienic application than pouring from the neck.
  • Tamper-evident ring – the dropper closure has a ring that separates on the first unscrewing and visibly shows that the packaging has been opened. When selling finished products, this is a simple guarantee of integrity for the customer.
  • Contrasting appearance – the glossy black bottle with a white dropper looks clean and carries both a light and a dark label well.

Using the set

The set as a whole is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The bottle on its own also has certification for direct contact with food, but the dropper does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic preparations and for dosing ingredients during production. For homemade oils or syrups, use the bottle with a different closure.

The dropper is matched in length to the height of the bottle. The tube reaches almost to the bottom, so the contents can be used up without tilting.

Before the first filling, wash both the bottle and the dropper, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely.

With each use the dropper returns into the contents and brings air as well as microbes from the skin into it. Water-based serums and emulsions should therefore be filled into a dropper bottle only with effective preservation.

Types of products the set is suited to:

  • Facial serums – both water-based and oil-based, where a few drops are dosed per application.
  • Oil blends and pure plant oils – light-sensitive, for example rosehip, cranberry, hemp or argan oil.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – glass does not react with alcohol, and the dropper allows the dose to be measured.
  • Fragrance compositions and essential oils in diluted blends – for workshop dosing into creams, soaps or candles drop by drop.
  • Massage and hair oils – 100 ml lasts for longer use, and the dropper saves the contents.

Nominal and total volume

For each piece of packaging we state two values. The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is intended for under normal filling, and that is what is stated on the label. The total volume to the brim is the physical volume all the way to the neck. The difference between them is the reserve for the dropper tube, which raises the level once it is fitted, and for the expansion of the contents with a change in temperature. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise when the dropper is screwed on the contents overflow and the closure does not seal cleanly. You will find the specific values in the product parameters.

Good to know

  • Sealing with a specific formulation – the dropper is screw-on and intended for upright storage. For transport or with very thin contents we recommend testing the bottle lying down before a larger batch and verifying that the bulb does not push out the contents with a change in pressure.
  • Essential oils and solvents – glass withstands them without problems. With undiluted essential oils, fragrance compositions or blends with a higher proportion of solvents we recommend verifying the behaviour of the silicone bulb and the plastic part of the closure; some components can soften or discolour plastic.
  • The level of the contents is not visible – opaque glass hides the level, and you can only tell the remaining product by weight or by what the dropper draws up.
  • Glass and heat – do not fill the bottle with a hot phase straight from the pot. Let the product cool at least to lukewarm; a sudden change in temperature can crack the glass.
  • Labelling – the straight wall of the dropper bottle carries a label well. On the glossy black glass, a transparent label with white print as well as a white label stands out.
  • Reuse – both the bottle and the dropper can be used again after thorough washing and disinfection. The tamper-evident ring separates after the first opening and no longer serves its function on reuse.
  • Recycling – the bottle belongs in glass. The dropper is a combination of plastic, glass and silicone; separate it from the bottle before sorting.

The dropper tube is made of glass. In a fall onto a hard floor it can crack even when the bottle stays intact. Check the dropper before further use; a shard of glass in the contents would be dangerous when applied to the skin.

Closures with the same neck type as the bottle can be found in the Handymade range along with other ready-made combinations of packaging and closure. For your own assembly we recommend verifying the sealing and the behaviour of the closure with the specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does a black glass bottle with a dropper protect the contents from light better than a brown one?
Yes, black glass is opaque and lets through neither visible nor UV light, whereas brown and blue glass only dim the light. For oils prone to oxidation, serums with vitamin C or retinoids and for essential oils the protection is therefore more complete. The price for this is that the amount of remaining contents cannot be seen from the outside.
Is the set of a black bottle with a white dropper suitable for food as well?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. Certification for direct contact with food is held separately by the glass bottle; the dropper does not have it. If you want to use the bottle for homemade oil or syrup, combine it with a closure that has food-grade certification and do not use the dropper.
Can a water-based serum be filled into a 100 ml glass bottle with a dropper?
Yes, but only a well-preserved one. With each use the dropper returns into the contents and brings in air as well as microbes from the skin, so a water-based serum without an effective preservative is risky in a dropper bottle. For anhydrous oil serums and tinctures containing alcohol this risk is considerably lower.
How much actually fits into a 100 ml dropper bottle?
It is filled to the nominal volume of 100 ml, not to the brim. The reserve between the nominal and the total volume is needed for the dropper tube, which raises the level once it is fitted, and for the expansion of the contents with a change in temperature. If overfilled, the contents overflow when the dropper is screwed on and the closure gets dirty.
How to prepare the glass bottle and the dropper before the first filling?
Wash both parts with warm water and a mild detergent, rinse thoroughly, rinse with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely neck down. Squeeze the dropper bulb several times in alcohol so that the tube is rinsed from the inside too. Fill only cooled product into completely dry packaging.
Does the dropper withstand essential oils and perfume compositions?
The glass dropper tube does, without restriction. The silicone bulb and the plastic part of the closure withstand common diluted blends. With undiluted essential oils or compositions with a higher proportion of solvents we recommend trying one piece and checking after a few weeks whether the bulb has softened or discoloured.
