Product description
The complete set of a glass vial-shaped bottle with a nominal volume of 100 ml and a dropper with a silver matte ferrule is intended for preparations that are damaged by light. The black glossy glass does not transmit light, so the contents are protected regardless of where the bottle stands. It is therefore particularly suitable for facial oils, oil serums, blends with essential oils, oil extracts and tinctures, whose components lose efficacy or change colour and scent when exposed to light.
The dropper allows dispensing the contents drop by drop or in small doses directly into the palm or onto the skin, without finger contact with the neck. The black bottle with a silver dropper looks cohesive even within a range of other products, and the appearance also serves a practical purpose: the dark glass conceals the contents as well as any colour changes in the preparation.
How to work with the set
The dropper consists of a silicone bulb, an aluminium ferrule and a glass tube. It screws onto the bottle thread and the seal in the ferrule closes the neck. The length of the tube is adapted to the height of the bottle, so it reaches almost to the bottom and the contents can be drawn up even at a low level. Squeezing the bulb draws in a dose; gentle pressing releases it drop by drop.
The set is particularly suitable for oil-based and anhydrous preparations with low to medium viscosity. Thick butters, high-viscosity gels or preparations with solid particles will not pass through the dropper or will be dispensed unevenly. With aqueous preparations the dropper works too, but air enters the bottle with each opening, so the contents must be reliably preserved.
Before first filling, wash both the bottle and the dropper, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Residual water in an oil-based preparation can cause cloudiness and promote the growth of micro-organisms.
Suitable for products such as
- Facial and body oils – light-sensitive unsaturated oils (rosehip, cranberry, blackcurrant) oxidise more slowly thanks to the dark glass.
- Oil serums with active ingredients – retinol, bakuchiol, coenzyme Q10 and vitamin E in an oil base are sensitive to light, and the dropper additionally allows precise dosing.
- Essential oil blends and fragrance blends – drop-by-drop dispensing is practical for concentrated blends, and the dark glass protects the scent from degradation.
- Beard and hair oils – a small dose into the palm without spilling.
- Tinctures and oil extracts – if intended for cosmetic use.
Nominal and total volume
Nominal volume is the volume for which the packaging is intended for regular filling and which is stated on the label. Total volume to the rim is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between them is the allowance that, after screwing on, is taken up by the dropper tube and the space for expansion of the contents during temperature changes. The bottle is filled to the nominal volume, not to the rim. If overfilled, the contents will overflow through the neck when the tube is inserted and the dropper will not seal. Exact values for both volumes can be found in the product parameters.
Good to know
The bottle has a separate certificate for direct contact with both food and cosmetics; the dropper is certified for cosmetics. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetic preparations. If you need packaging for food use, choose the bottle with a separate closure that has food-grade approval.
Glass does not react with essential oils, alcohol or solvents, so the bottle is also suitable for concentrated fragrance blends and alcohol-based preparations. In the dropper, the glass tube is in contact with the contents and, when tilted, so is the silicone bulb. For preparations with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking the behaviour of the bulb with the specific formulation, or storing the bottle upright.
Glass withstands washing in hot water, but should not be exposed to sudden temperature changes, for example hot water poured onto a cold bottle. Filling with hot contents is not expected for a dropper bottle; oil-based preparations are filled when cooled.
Tighten the dropper by hand only. The aluminium ferrule may deform if overtightened, causing the seal to fail.
The bottle and dropper are intended for repeated use. When changing the contents, it is sufficient to wash and disinfect both parts. However, the silicone bulb may soften or change shape after prolonged contact with essential oils; in that case, it is advisable to replace the dropper. A replacement dropper or another closure with the same thread type as stated in the parameters can be found in the Handymade range. When combining your own parts, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing with your formulation.
The straight cylindrical shape of the bottle makes labelling easy. A light or transparent label with light-coloured print works well on the glossy black glass.
Once emptied, the bottle is sorted as glass. The dropper is a combination of glass, aluminium, silicone and plastic, so it goes into mixed waste unless it can be disassembled.
