Product description
A black glass bottle with an aluminium cap is a ready-made set for serums, facial and hair oils, oil blends with essential oils, tinctures and tonics. The medicine-bottle-shaped flask with a glossy black surface and the black aluminium cap with an 18/410 thread are a perfect match, so you do not need to search for compatible parts or test whether the combination will seal. The nominal volume of 100 ml corresponds to standard cosmetic packaging dispensed by drops onto the palm or by pouring.
The black opaque glass protects the contents from light, which is especially valuable for products sensitive to oxidation. The glossy dark surface has a uniform appearance and works well with a white, gold or metallic label. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The bottle itself also holds a food-contact certificate, but the aluminium cap does not, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic and technical use.
Why choose this set
- Light protection – opaque black glass slows the oxidation of vegetable oils, vitamins and essential oils in the finished product.
- Chemically stable material – glass does not react with essential oils, alcohol or solvents, which cannot always be said of plastic packaging.
- Aluminium cap with sealing insert – the inner EPE foam insert seats on the neck and seals the contents against leakage during normal handling and transport.
- Ready-made combination – the cap thread matches the bottle neck, so you do not need to verify closure compatibility.
- Reusable – both the glass bottle and the aluminium cap can be refilled after washing and disinfection.
What the set is suitable for
The 100 ml volume suits a facial or body oil, hair oil, massage blend or oil serum. Opaque glass makes sense wherever the contents are rich in unsaturated fatty acids or contain light-sensitive components, such as rosehip, borage or linseed oil, vitamin C in the oil phase, carotenoids or citrus essential oils.
Thanks to the resistance of glass to alcohol, the set is also suitable for tinctures, herbal alcohol extracts and alcohol-containing tonics. It can also be used for liquid water-based products, though bear in mind that without a dropper or pump you will dispense by pouring.
Less suitable for thick creams and butters, which are difficult to dispense through a narrow neck. Wide-neck jars are a better choice for those textures.
Nominal and total volume
For every container we distinguish between nominal volume and total brim-full volume. The nominal volume is the quantity for which the bottle is intended under normal filling. The total brim-full volume is the physical capacity up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the cap with its sealing insert and space for the contents to expand with temperature changes. The bottle is therefore filled to the nominal volume, not to the brim. Filling right up to the neck causes the contents to reach the thread, the cap seals poorly and the packaging becomes stuck.
Oil blends and alcohol extracts expand in volume when warm. If you fill the bottle in a cold room and store it at room temperature, leave sufficient headspace below the neck, otherwise the contents may be forced into the thread when closing.
What to know when filling
Before first use, wash and disinfect the bottle, even if it looks clean. Rinse it with hot water, disinfect with alcohol and leave it to dry thoroughly with the neck facing down. Fill only after it is completely dry; residual water in an oil product would appear as cloudiness and pose a risk to microbiological stability.
Tighten the aluminium cap with moderate force. The sealing insert seats on the neck with just a light tightening; excessive force can damage the thread or deform the insert. For solvent-based products and higher concentrations of essential oils, we recommend verifying the behaviour of the EPE insert by test-filling and monitoring over several weeks.
Glass does not tolerate sudden temperature changes. Allow a hot oil phase or freshly melted product to cool to approximately room temperature before filling. Black glass does not allow you to see the fill level, so when measuring use scales or a measuring cylinder and mark the bottle with the filling date.
If you want to use the bottle with a dropper or pump instead of the cap, choose a closure with the same 18/410 neck type. Ready-made combinations of the bottle with other closures are available in the Handymade range; for a custom combination, verify sealing and dispensing with the specific formulation.
Glass and aluminium are recyclable materials. When disposing, unscrew the cap and place both materials in the appropriate collection.
