Product description

The blue glass bottle with a capacity of 10 ml and an aluminium cap is intended for small quantities of cosmetics that need protection from light. Blue glass lets through less light than clear glass, which is why it is used for face oils, serums, essential oil blends or alcohol-based tinctures, as well as test batches of toners and liquid preparations when you are fine-tuning a formula. The aluminium screw cap with a liner seals the contents, so the bottle is suitable for travel packs, customer samples and small gifts.

The bottle and cap set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products.

What it is suitable for

Face and hair oils – unrefined oils and oil blends with antioxidants are sensitive to light, the darker glass protects them, and the small volume is used up before it has time to oxidise.
Essential oil blends and perfume concentrates – glass does not react with them and does not absorb the scent, so after washing, the bottle can be used for a different blend.
Alcohol-based tinctures and extracts – the glass bottle withstands an alcohol base and the threaded cap limits evaporation.
Test batches and samples – when developing a formula, 10 ml is suitable for setting aside a reference sample or for a stability test under different conditions.

Packaging and closure

The bottle has the shape of a pharmaceutical bottle: a narrower body, straight walls and an 18/410 neck finish. The narrow neck makes it easier to pour small quantities and to dispense without spilling. The cap is made of aluminium in a silver finish and has an EPE (foam polyethylene) liner inside, which sits against the neck when tightened and seals it. The metal cap has a low profile and does not add bulk to the bottle.

The bottle states a nominal volume, that is, the volume the packaging is intended for under normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between the two is a reserve for the cap, for expansion of the contents with temperature changes, and for closing comfortably without pushing out the contents.

Fill to the nominal volume, not to the neck. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents leak out when the cap is tightened and the liner in the closure remains contaminated, which impairs the seal the next time it is closed.

Preparation and filling

Before the first filling, the bottle and the cap are washed, disinfected with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and left to dry completely. Residual water in oil-based contents encourages the growth of microorganisms and spoils the appearance of the product. The contents should be cooled down before being poured into the glass, as a sudden change in temperature can damage the glass. A small funnel or a syringe has proved useful for filling through the narrow neck.

The cap is tightened by hand. Before reusing it, check that the liner in the cap is intact and sits properly in place. If it is damaged or carries residue of the previous contents, it is better to replace the cap.

For concentrated essential oils, fragrance compositions and solvents, we recommend checking how the liner behaves in the specific formulation. Glass is resistant to them, but the plastic liner in the cap comes into contact with the contents every time the bottle is turned upside down.

Both glass and aluminium recycle well. Once the bottle is empty, unscrew the cap and sort the two parts separately.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?

Yes, blue glass reduces the transmission of light better than clear glass and so slows changes in light-sensitive contents, for example the oxidation of unrefined oils or the fading of coloured preparations. It is not completely opaque, however, so store filled bottles out of direct sunlight, in a drawer or a box.

How much does the 10 ml glass bottle actually hold?

Under normal filling, 10 ml goes into the bottle, which is its nominal volume. Physically it holds more up to the neck; the exact value is given in the parameters. The extra space is left empty as a reserve for the cap and in case the contents expand slightly when warm.

Can the 10 ml glass bottle with an aluminium cap be reused?

Yes, after washing and disinfection with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol, the glass bottle can be filled again. The aluminium cap is also reusable, but what matters is the condition of the liner inside. If the liner is damaged or soaked with old contents, replace the cap, otherwise there is a risk of leaking.
