Product description

The blue glass pharmaceutical bottle with a volume of 10 ml and a black aluminium cap makes a ready-to-use set for small quantities of cosmetics that you want to protect from light. Blue glass dampens the light reaching the contents, so it is suitable for essential oil blends, facial and massage oils, fragrance oils, tinctures or serum samples that are dispensed by pouring or measuring. The cap with an 18 mm thread is supplied together with the bottle, so you do not need to buy the closure separately.

Both the bottle and the cap are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics, not for food.

What the set is suitable for

The 10 ml volume corresponds to the quantity that is used up within a few weeks, or it can serve as a sample pack for customers. You can fill the glass with oil-based, alcohol-based and water-based preparations.

  • Essential oil blends – concentrates that are diluted into a carrier oil or a diffuser.
  • Fragrance oils and alcohol-based perfumes – small packs for trying out a fragrance before making a larger batch.
  • Facial oils and serum samples – for testing sets or for travel.
  • Tinctures and infusions – the contents are dispensed by pouring or with a measuring spoon.

For products that need drop-by-drop dispensing, it is better to use this bottle with a dropper. You will find closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations in the Handymade range. When making your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the quantity for which the bottle is intended under normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference between them forms a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. When the contents reach the neck, part of them is pushed out by the cap during closing and remains on the thread.

Filling, closing and tightness

The narrow neck of the pharmaceutical bottle makes precise filling easier with a small funnel or a syringe. The aluminium cap has an inner liner made of polyethylene foam (EPE), which sits on the neck and keeps the contents sealed. It is enough to tighten the cap by hand; excessive force compresses the liner unnecessarily.

After filling, turn the packaging upside down onto a paper towel for a few minutes. If a damp mark appears, the thread is contaminated with the contents or the cap is not tightened enough.

If you are filling alcohol-based preparations or undiluted essential oils, check how the cap liner behaves during longer contact on a single piece before filling the whole series.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Residual water in the packaging shortens the stability of anhydrous products.

Glass tolerates sudden temperature changes poorly. Pour hot contents carefully into packaging at room temperature, or let them cool slightly first, or alternatively warm the packaging beforehand.

Blue glass dampens light, but it does not replace storage in the dark. Products that are sensitive to light and oxidation, for example oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, should also be kept in this packaging away from direct sunlight.

The packaging can be reused. Before each further filling, check the cap: a liner that has absorbed the previous contents or is deformed may no longer seal in the same way. Both glass and aluminium are recyclable; separate the cap from the bottle before handing it in for recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, blue glass dampens the light reaching the contents and thus slows down the changes in an oil or tincture that light causes. However, it is not a complete barrier, so keep the packaging in the dark or in a box, especially with oils prone to yellowing.
How much will fit into a 10 ml glass bottle?
The bottle is intended for 10 ml of contents, which is its nominal volume. The physical volume up to the brim is larger; you will find the exact value in the parameters. The difference serves as a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If you fill the bottle up to the neck, part of the contents will run onto the thread during closing.
Can the aluminium cap with an EPE liner be used for alcohol-based and oil-based contents?
The cap is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. The polyethylene foam liner comes into direct contact with the contents, so with concentrated essential oils or high-proof alcohol we recommend checking the tightness and the condition of the liner after a few days on a single piece, and only then filling the whole series.
How do I prepare a glass pharmaceutical bottle before the first filling?
Wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely with the neck facing down. The packaging is not sterile when it leaves production. Residual water in the packaging is a risk especially for anhydrous products, such as oil blends and fragrance oils.
What other closure fits a 10 ml glass bottle with an 18 mm neck?
Any closure with the same thread type, as stated in the parameters, fits the bottle, for example a dropper or a mini trigger sprayer. When replacing the cap with another closure, check the tightness and whether the new closure dispenses contents of the required viscosity.
