Product description

This blue glass bottle with a nasal sprayer is a ready-made set for small volumes of thin water-based products applied as a fine mist in small doses. Blue glass reduces light exposure, so it keeps hydrolates, toners with active ingredients and aromatic sprays better, as these lose their fragrance or colour in light. The 10 ml volume is also suitable for testing a new recipe before you fill a larger batch.

The name “nasal sprayer” describes the shape and dispensing method of the pump, just as “pharmaceutical bottle” describes the shape of the bottle. The whole set is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products. It is not intended for food.

How the set works

The bottle has an 18/410 neck finish, and the pump, which has the same thread, simply screws onto it. The pump draws the contents up through a dip tube. The tube is longer than the bottle, so it is shortened before fitting to reach the bottom. One press releases a dose of approximately 0.12 ml as a fine mist. The same dose with every press makes it easier to estimate consumption and to advise customers how many presses correspond to one use.

The pump is white with clear parts, and the body of the bottle is blue.

What it is suitable for

  • Hydrolates and floral waters – the low viscosity and water base match what the pump is designed for, and the blue glass helps to preserve their fragrance.
  • Toners and light active solutions – small doses allow precise application to a chosen spot without waste.
  • Aromatic and refreshing water-based sprays – the fine mist spreads the contents evenly.
  • Samples and travel packs – the glass body withstands repeated opening and carrying.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for in normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume of the glass up to the neck, and you will find it in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the pump, which push the level upwards once screwed on, and also for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill only up to the nominal volume. If you fill to the brim, the contents overflow when the pump is fitted and part of them remains in the thread, where it is difficult to clean.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Pump the disinfectant solution through the pump several times and then pump air until the last drop leaves the tube. Residual water in the tube would mix with the first dose of the contents.

Good to know

The pump is designed for thin water-based liquids. With thicker contents, oils or gels, the pump either does not draw them up or pushes them out as a stream instead of a mist. For any recipe that is not purely water-based, we recommend testing the spray and the intake on a single piece before filling larger quantities.

The pump mechanism contains plastic parts and a steel spring. For contents with a higher proportion of ethanol or with essential oils, we therefore recommend a stability test in the finished set over several weeks.

The glass body tolerates normal temperatures during cold filling. Pouring hot contents into cold glass, or rapidly cooling a filled bottle, may crack the glass, so let the contents cool before filling.

The bottle can be reused after washing and disinfection. The pump is harder to clean, because residues of the contents remain in the tube and in the body of the pump. When changing the recipe, it is more reliable to replace it with a new one, especially with fragrances that cannot be fully removed from plastic.

When reusing the pump, rinse it by pumping clean water through it several times and then air, so that the tube is emptied.

For recycling, separate the glass bottle from the pump. The glass goes with glass waste, and the plastic parts, including the spring, go with plastics, according to the rules in your municipality. You will find other closures with an 18/410 neck finish, as well as ready-made combinations of this bottle with other pumps, in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 10 ml blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Blue glass reduces light but does not block it completely. For hydrolates, toners and aromatic sprays, this is sufficient protection under normal storage on a shelf or in a cosmetic bag. If the contents are highly light-sensitive, also store the bottle in the dark or in a case.
How much liquid does one press of the nasal sprayer release?
One press releases approximately 0.12 ml of the contents. When filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml, this corresponds to roughly several dozen doses. The exact number depends on how much of the contents remains in the tube and in the body of the pump once the bottle is emptied. The figure applies to thin water-based liquids.
Is the glass bottle with a nasal sprayer suitable for oil-based products?
No, the pump is designed for thin water-based liquids. The pump does not draw up oils and thicker contents correctly, or pushes them out without a mist. For oil-based serums, the same blue bottle is suitable with a dropper or another closure with an 18/410 neck finish, which you will find separately in our range.
Can the bottle with a nasal sprayer be used for alcohol-based contents?
The glass bottle tolerates alcohol without problems; the limitation is the pump. Its plastic parts and spring are stressed by a high proportion of ethanol, so we recommend letting the filled set stand for several weeks and checking the tightness, the mist and the appearance of the contents before you package a whole batch this way.
Why is the 10 ml bottle not filled to the brim?
The bottle is filled up to the nominal volume of 10 ml, and the remainder up to the brim serves as a reserve. When the pump is screwed on, the tube and part of the pump body are inserted into the bottle, which take up space and push the level upwards. The reserve also covers the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. An overfilled bottle overflows when closed and the contents remain in the thread.
