Product description

The blue glass bottle with a capacity of 15 ml and a white glossy dropper is intended for small amounts of liquid preparations that are applied drop by drop. These include facial serums, oil blends for face and hair, diluted essential oils in a carrier oil, tinctures and trial batches of a new formulation. Blue glass lets through less light than clear glass, which helps slow the changes that daylight triggers in the contents. It is therefore especially suitable for vegetable oils prone to oxidation and for serums with sensitive active ingredients. The glass does not react with the contents and does not retain fragrances.

The set consists of a medicine bottle and a dropper with a glass tube, a silicone head and a white glossy plastic (PP) ring. The dropper also closes the bottle, so a single part is enough for both dispensing and closing.

Suitable uses

  • Facial and hair serums – the dropper lets you measure out a few drops onto your palm or directly onto the skin without spilling the contents.
  • Oil blends and elixirs – 15 ml is used up quickly with daily use, so the oil does not stand open for long.
  • Diluted essential oil blends – a carrier oil with added essential oils is dispensed precisely, and the coloured glass protects the fragrant components from light.
  • Tinctures and alcohol extracts – the glass withstands alcohol; for longer storage of alcohol-based contents, we recommend checking the tightness of the dropper.
  • Samples and test batches – the small volume is enough to test the stability of a formulation or to prepare a sample for a customer.

Filling and using the dropper

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed to hold when filled normally. The brimful volume given in the parameters is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference between them is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the thread when you screw on the dropper.

A narrow funnel or a syringe helps when filling small bottles. The neck stays clean and the thread of the dropper does not get coated with oil, which would harden over time and prevent a tight closure.

The dropper is used by squeezing the silicone head, immersing the tube in the contents and releasing. The size of the drop depends on the density and surface tension of the contents. Thicker oils form larger drops than aqueous solutions or alcohol extracts. For gel or very thick consistencies, check in advance that the contents can be drawn up through the tube easily.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual water in the tube or head would dilute anhydrous preparations and promote microbial growth in oils. After thorough washing and drying, the bottle can be reused.

Do not fill the glass with hot contents. Let the preparation cool first, as a sudden change in temperature can damage the glass.

Store the bottle with the dropper upright. Contents that stand in the silicone head for a longer time, especially concentrated essential oils, can soften it and change its colour. With pure essential oils, check how the head behaves with the specific oil.

Suitability for contact with cosmetic products is declared for the dropper. The bottle has its own EU declaration of conformity with packaging requirements. The set is not intended for contact with food.

You can also combine the bottle with other closures with the same neck type from the Handymade range, where you will also find ready-made sets. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

An empty glass bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper consists of glass, silicone and plastic, so separate it from the bottle before recycling.

Frequently asked questions

Does a blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, blue glass absorbs part of the light and so slows the changes that daylight would cause in the contents. It is not complete protection, so store a blue bottle away from direct sunlight as well. For oils prone to oxidation and for serums with sensitive active ingredients, coloured glass is more suitable than clear glass.
How full should I fill a 15 ml bottle with a dropper?
Fill it up to the nominal volume of 15 ml, not to the brim. The remaining space up to the neck is a reserve for the glass tube of the dropper and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If the bottle is filled higher, the contents are pushed out through the thread when you screw on the dropper and make the thread sticky.
Can a bottle with a dropper be washed and used again?
Yes, after washing, disinfecting with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and drying completely, the glass bottle can be filled again. Wash the dropper separately and rinse the tube as well. The silicone head retains fragrances and loses elasticity over time, so it is better to replace it with a new one when you change the formulation.
Is a blue bottle with a dropper suitable for essential oils and tinctures?
It is suitable for essential oils diluted in a carrier oil and for alcohol tinctures, as the glass does not react with them. With pure essential oils, check how the silicone head of the dropper behaves, as concentrated oils can soften it during long contact. Store the bottle upright so that the contents do not stand in the head.
Is the 15 ml bottle with a dropper suitable for cosmetic products?
Suitability for contact with cosmetic products is declared for the dropper, which is in direct contact with the contents. The bottle has its own EU declaration of conformity with packaging requirements. The set is not intended for contact with food.
