Blue Glass Bottle, Glossy Silver White Spray, 50 ml

This blue glass bottle with a fine mist sprayer is for filling with hydrosols, facial toners and other thin preparations that are applied to the skin or hair as a spray. Blue glass filters out part of the light, so it suits contents that are sensitive to light: hydrosols, aqueous solutions of active ingredients, extracts and alcohol-based preparations. The sprayer, in a glossy white and silver finish, is supplied together with the bottle as a matched set, so you do not need to buy the closure separately or check whether it will seal.

The 50 ml volume suits a facial mist for your handbag, a travel pack of toner or a trial batch of a new recipe. The medicine bottle has a narrow neck and a straight body, sits well in the hand and stands stably. Both the bottle and the sprayer are declared suitable for contact with cosmetics, and the whole set is intended for cosmetic preparations.

What it is suitable for

• Hydrosols and facial mists – the sprayer disperses thin water-based preparations evenly over the face without cotton pads. The blue glass also protects the contents from light.
• Toners and water serums without thickeners – low-concentration solutions of hyaluronic acid, niacinamide or panthenol in a hydrosol are dispensed in small doses exactly where needed.
• Water-based hair sprays – light conditioning mists or shine mists where a fine dispersion matters.
• Alcohol-based preparations – perfume waters, refreshing body sprays or herbal tinctures in alcohol. Glass does not react with alcohol. As for whether the sprayer tolerates a specific concentration of alcohol and fragrance components, we recommend testing it on a single unit.
• Thin oils – the sprayer only handles very fluid oils and dry oil blends with a higher proportion of light esters. Thicker oils and emulsions are better dispensed with a pump.

Filling and handling the packaging

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume expresses the physical volume up to the neck and can be found in the parameters. The difference between them is a reserve for the tube and body of the sprayer and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Fill the bottle to the nominal volume, not to the brim, otherwise part of the contents will overflow when you screw on the sprayer.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. After screwing on the sprayer, press the head several times without product until the tube fills and mist starts to come out. One dose from the sprayer is approximately 0.14 ml, which for 50 ml of contents corresponds to several hundred presses.

Good to know

• Sprayer and thickness of the contents – gels, serums with xanthan gum or carbomer and preparations with undissolved particles (powders, plant residues) clog the mechanism or come out as a jet instead of a mist. Only clear, well-filtered solutions belong in the sprayer.
• Glass and heat – pour cooled contents into the bottle. Let a hydrosol or alcohol that is still hot from distillation cool down first, and avoid sudden temperature changes, for example a cold bottle under hot water.
• Sprayer material – the sprayer is made of polypropylene and aluminium. For preparations with a higher proportion of essential oils, concentrated fragrance compositions or solvents, we recommend testing on a single unit before a larger batch to check that the seal and mechanism do not change their behaviour after several weeks.
• Reuse – the glass withstands repeated washing and disinfection. Before the next filling, rinse the sprayer with clean water or ethanol, spray it through several times and leave it to dry, so that no residues of the previous contents remain in the tube.
• Preserving the contents – the sprayer limits contact of the contents with fingers, but it does not protect water-based preparations without a preservative from microbial growth. The blue glass deals with light; microbial stability must be ensured by the formulation.
• Recycling – unscrew the sprayer before disposal. The bottle belongs with glass; sort the plastic and aluminium sprayer according to the rules in your municipality.
