Product description

The clear PET medicine bottle with a volume of 50 ml and a white and silver fine mist sprayer is a ready-made set for liquid cosmetic products that are applied by spraying. The clear plastic shows the contents and their colour. PET is light and does not break when dropped, so the set can withstand being carried in a handbag and packed for travel. The 50 ml volume suits toners, hydrosols, hair and body sprays, or smaller batches when fine-tuning a formulation. The set as a whole is declared suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

  • Toners and hydrosols – the sprayer disperses thin water-based products into a fine mist that is applied evenly, without hand contact.
  • Hair and body sprays – alcohol-based or water-based solutions, refreshing sprays and fragrance waters with low viscosity.
  • Travel and trial packs – 50 ml lasts for several weeks of use, or serves as a formulation sample for a customer.
  • Cleaning and disinfectant solutions – alcohol-based solutions for hands or surfaces.

How to fill and dispense

The bottle has a nominal volume of 50 ml. This is the volume intended for normal filling, although slightly more will physically fit up to the neck. The difference is a reserve for the sprayer’s dip tube and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Therefore, fill it to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If it is filled up to the neck, the contents will squirt out around the thread after the sprayer is screwed on.

The sprayer is screwed onto the neck by hand, without tools. Before first use, prime it by pressing it several times until the dip tube fills and the sprayer starts dispensing evenly. One press releases approximately 0.14 ml of the contents, so a full bottle delivers several hundred sprays. The length of the dip tube is adapted to the height of the bottle so that the contents can be sprayed out almost to the bottom.

The sprayer is designed for contents with a viscosity close to water. Thicker products, emulsions or oil blends may clog the mechanism or produce a jet instead of a mist. With such formulations, first test the dispensing on a small quantity.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the sprayer, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. Residual moisture would dilute the contents and reduce the stability of water-based products with weak preservation.

Clear PET does not protect the contents from light. For products with sensitive active ingredients, essential oils or natural dyes, a bottle made of amber or blue glass is more suitable; alternatively, store the clear bottle out of direct sunlight. Higher concentrations of essential oils, as well as solvents, can stress the plastic over the long term, so check how the packaging behaves in the finished formulation when using such contents.

The bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food as well. The sprayer does not have this certificate, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics, not for food use.

After thorough washing and disinfection, the set can be reused. When changing the contents, rinse the sprayer with clean water and spray it through so that no residues remain in the tube and nozzle, especially after alcohol-based fragrance waters. The bottle is recycled as PET, the sprayer as plastic with an aluminium part, preferably separately from the bottle.

Closures with the same neck type as stated in the parameters, and other ready-made combinations of packaging and closure, can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 50 ml plastic medicine bottle with a fine mist sprayer suitable for a hydrosol or toner?
Yes, water-based products with low viscosity are the most suitable type of contents for this set. The sprayer disperses them into a fine mist and the application is even. Hydrosols and toners without a preservative have a short shelf life, so fill smaller quantities and disinfect the bottle before each filling.
Does the clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. It is therefore suitable for products that are not harmed by light, or for short-term and travel packs. For formulations with sensitive active ingredients, essential oils or natural dyes, choose dark glass, or store the bottle out of direct sunlight.
Can the sprayer dispense oil or a thicker product?
The sprayer is designed for contents with a viscosity close to water and dispenses thicker products unreliably. Oils and emulsions may clog the mechanism or come out as a jet instead of a mist. If you want to spray an oil-based product, check the behaviour on a small quantity and choose a different type of closure for thick formulations.
How much does the bottle hold and why should it not be filled to the brim?
The bottle is intended for a nominal volume of 50 ml, although physically somewhat more fits into it. The space above this mark is a reserve for the sprayer’s dip tube and for expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. If it is filled to the brim, the contents will squirt out around the thread after the sprayer is screwed on and the bottle may leak.
Can I use the set for food as well, for example for flavoured spirit or oil?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the sprayer does not. For food use, the bottle must therefore be combined with a closure that has its own certificate for contact with food.
How do I clean the bottle with the sprayer before reuse?
Wash the bottle with warm water and a cleaning product, rinse it, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Rinse the sprayer with clean water and spray it through several times to clean the tube and the nozzle. PET does not tolerate high temperatures, so it must not be boiled or washed in a dishwasher.
