Cosmetic glitters – sparkling effects for soaps and decorative cosmetics

Cosmetic glitters are small particles with a special surface that give products a sparkling and decorative effect . They are designed to meet cosmetic standards for safe use on the skin, in body care products, soaps or makeup. Key terms: glitters for cosmetics , glitter , effect pigments , decorative cosmetics .

They are available in various particle sizes (micro to macro), shades and types of shine – from subtle pearlescent to strongly metallic. They are suitable for soaps, lip balms, body oils, lip glosses, masks or eyeshadows. Thanks to their inert surface, they disperse easily and do not migrate in more complex formulations.

In the Handymade.sk range you will also find MICA pigments for pearlescent effects and powder colourants for fully covering shades. Glitters can be combined with these components to achieve unique visual effects in cosmetics and soaps.

Cosmetic glitters (synthetic)

Produced from polyester films with a special surface treatment resistant to heat and water. Suitable for soaps, gels, varnishes, masks and makeup. They do not cause skin irritation and meet the requirements for cosmetic use.

Biodegradable glitters

Produced from cellulose polymers and natural raw materials, they represent an ecological alternative to plastic glitters. They break down in the natural environment and are suitable for naturally oriented formulations.

Glitters for soap

They withstand heat and an alkaline environment and do not colour the foam or the skin. Suitable for glycerine soaps and cold process soaps . Dose at 0,1–1 % according to the desired effect.

Glitters for decorative cosmetics

Intended for products such as eyeshadows, balms, lip glosses or body oils. It is recommended to choose a finer fraction (up to 200 µm) for comfortable application and an even effect.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

Are cosmetic glitters safe for the skin?

Yes, cosmetic glitters meet the requirements for use in cosmetics. They are tested for dermal safety, do not contain sharp edges or heavy metals and are intended for external use only.

How do cosmetic and decorative glitters differ?

Decorative glitters are not intended for contact with the skin – they may contain unsuitable colourants and have sharp edges. Cosmetic glitters are specially modified for safe use on the body and face.

How to dose glitters in soap or cosmetics?

The usual dosage is 0,1–1 %. Add the glitters to the still warm mass and stir so that they disperse evenly. For decorative products, a small amount is sufficient for a visible effect.

Do glitters dissolve in water or oil?

No. Glitters are insoluble and work as a physical effect – they reflect light. Therefore, it is important to disperse them evenly in the mass or in a transparent base.

Are glitters suitable for lip balms?

Yes, as long as they are glitters labelled as “lip-safe”. Before adding them to balms, it is recommended to check the product specification and the recommended use.
