When choosing a container (glass vial, jar, pot or other container), its internal diameter and height are particularly important. The wick should have sufficient space around it so that the wax can melt evenly and excessive overheating of the packaging walls does not occur. We recommend preparing several test candles in different packaging and monitoring the behaviour of the flame throughout the entire burning time, especially during the first few hours.

The wooden wick is suitable for most commonly used waxes for candle making (for example soy, blend or paraffin wax). Since each wax has a different density, melting point and proportion of additives (colorants, perfumes, essential oils), we always recommend producing trial series in the specific container you plan to use. In this way you will verify whether the flame is stable, whether the wick creates a sufficiently wide wax “pool”, and whether the candle burns safely and evenly.

You can reuse the container after the candle has burned down if you observe hygiene principles – for example for another candle or as a jar or pot for other products. First mechanically remove any remaining wax and clean the container thoroughly. Before refilling, it is advisable to disinfect the packaging with alcohol-based preparations, for example using isopropyl alcohol or ethanol: IPA 99 % isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96 % denatured plant-based. Packaging prepared in this way can be safely reused for further projects.

If you decide not to reuse the container after the candle, we recommend that, after removing the remaining wax and the wick, you place it in sorted waste according to the material indicated for the specific packaging in the product parameters on Handymade.sk. Glass vials, jars and tumblers generally belong in the glass container, plastic parts (for example lids or inserts) in the appropriate plastic sorting according to the material designation. Metal components (for example metal lid or wick tab) should be sorted into metal waste if this option is available in your municipality.
