The cross wooden wick represents a modern and visually attractive solution for creating candles, wax decorations and design scented objects in a container. Thanks to its structure and stability, it is particularly suitable for liquid wax blends which, after solidifying, form a compact core around the wick, thereby ensuring even burning and an aesthetic appearance of the candle.
The cross construction of the wick made from natural wood supports even burning, minimal smoking and a pleasant crackling effect, which completes the overall candle experience. This type of wick is popular for the production of design candles in glass and plastic containers, in decorative jars or in various atypical containers intended for wax compositions.
When choosing a cross wooden wick, follow the diameter of the container, the type of wax and the content of fragrance substances. In the product parameters, the recommended container diameter range for a given wick is usually stated. It applies that the wider the container and the harder or more highly fragranced the wax is, the more robust wick is usually required. Before serial production, we recommend making trial pours in the real container and observing whether the flame melts the surface of the wax evenly without excessive smoking or overburning.
The cross wooden wick is designed as a consumable component which is gradually degraded during burning, therefore as such it is usually not used repeatedly. However, if you plan to reuse the container into which the wick is poured, the packaging can be used repeatedly if hygiene rules are observed. Before the next filling, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the container from wax residues and impurities and then disinfect it with a suitable alcohol, for example by using the products IPA 99% isopropyl alcohol or Ethanol 96% denatured vegetable. In this way you ensure a clean surface for a new pour and optimal wax behaviour.
Before pouring with wax, place the cross wooden wick in the centre of the container using a metal or other suitable base that is adapted to the given wick type. Make sure that the wick is fixed perpendicular and stable so that it does not change position during pouring or solidifying of the wax. Pour the wax at the recommended temperature for the specific wax type so that no deformation or excessive soaking of the wood occurs. After the wax has completely solidified, check the height of the wick and, if necessary, gently shorten its end to the recommended length for the first lighting.
After the candle has burned down, first let the wax cool completely. Mechanically remove the wax residues and the metal or wooden part of the wick. Then adapt the method of disposal of the container to the material specified in the parameters of the respective packaging on Handymade.sk – glass vials and jars belong as standard in the glass container, plastic packs go into sorted plastic waste according to material designation and metal parts go into metal waste or mixed municipal waste if sorting is not available. If you decide not to reuse the container, by recycling it according to the recommended material stream you will support responsible handling of packaging.
