Jojoba Oil, Cold Pressed, Organic, 100 ml

Jojoba oil cold-pressed to BIO quality is a liquid plant wax from the seeds of the Simmondsia chinensis shrub. In cosmetics it acts as an emollient in the oil phase: its composition closely resembles sebum, so it absorbs quickly and leaves no heavy greasy film. It suits facial and body oils, serums, lip balms, hair oils, creams and lotions, where it provides softness without a weighed-down feeling.

The oil is produced by mechanical cold pressing without heat or solvents and then only filtered, so it retains its natural composition including accompanying compounds. The raw material holds BIO certification, is purely plant-based and free from palm oil derivatives.

• Hydration and protection against moisture loss – forms a thin breathable layer on the skin that slows water evaporation. Skin stays supple for longer, which is especially appreciated for dry and thickened skin.

• Hair conditioning – moisturises hair and scalp, reduces dryness and gives hair softness and shine. In small amounts it does not weigh hair down.

Use in formulation

Jojoba oil belongs to the oil phase. It is added cold or to a mildly warmed oil phase; the recommended processing temperature is up to 40 °C. In hot-process emulsions, add it only after cooling below this threshold, or at the end during final cooling. It does not mix with water; it can only enter tonics and sprays through a solubiliser.

Dosage is flexible in the range of 1 – 100 %. In creams and lotions it typically forms part of the oil phase alongside other emollients; in facial serums and body oils it can serve as the carrier oil or the sole ingredient. In lip balms and solid sticks it softens the wax base and improves spreadability.

Good to know

The wax esters give the oil a low saponification value, so it behaves differently from common oils in cold-process soap. A large proportion remains unsaponified and acts as superfat, which conditions the soap. It is therefore added as a supplementary ingredient, not as the base oil of the formula. When calculating the lye, use its own saponification value rather than values for common vegetable oils.

The oil is almost odourless, does not alter the aroma of the product and carries essential oils and fragrance compositions well. In anhydrous products (oils, balms, solid sticks) no preservative is required. In emulsions the water phase is typically preserved; jojoba oil does not restrict the choice of preservative.
