Product description

Black glossy glass bottle with pump, 100 ml

This set of a black glass bottle in a medicine bottle shape and a plastic pump in a glossy white and silver finish is intended for cosmetic products applied in small doses. Black glass does not transmit light, so the contents are protected from its effects even on a bathroom shelf or a shop counter. One press of the pump dispenses approximately 0.14 ml, which corresponds to a usual single-use dose of serum, facial oil or light emulsion.

The 100 ml volume and dark glass suit makers who fill serums, oil blends with essential oils, fluid emulsions or liquid toners and want to give the contents a uniform look without direct light. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. The certificate for direct food contact applies only to the glass bottle on its own; the set with the pump as a whole is intended for cosmetics.

What it is suitable for

  • Facial serums and fluids – the small dose per press corresponds to the amount applied to the face and neck.
  • Facial and hair oils – glass does not react with oils or essential oils, and the dark colour limits light-driven oxidation of the contents.
  • Light emulsions and milks – thinner emulsions are applied evenly with the pump and without fingers touching the contents.
  • Liquid toners and essences – low-viscosity water-based contents that are dispensed into the palm instead of being sprayed.

The pump with a thin tube may not draw up thick creams, balms or high-viscosity gels. With a thicker formulation, check how the pump behaves with your specific recipe before you fill a larger batch.

Good to know

The bottle has a nominal volume of 100 ml; the brimful capacity is given in the parameters. The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed to hold under normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume up to the neck. The difference leaves room for the pump tube and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill only up to the nominal volume.

The pump tube reaches the bottom of the bottle, so almost all of the contents can be used up. If the tube bends at the bottom after fitting, shorten it with a diagonal cut. A slanted end does not stick to the bottom and the suction stays smooth.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. Any moisture left inside would get into an anhydrous product. Treat the tube and the pump body in the same way; the outer head alone is not enough.

Glass withstands usual filling temperatures, but a sudden change of temperature is not good for it. Do not fill a cold bottle with hot contents. Let emulsions and oil blends cool to room temperature before filling; the pump with plastic parts is fitted only after the contents have cooled.

The bottle can be reused. Simply wash it, remove any residue of the contents from the tube and disinfect it again. When you change the type of contents, for example from oil to a water-based serum, rinse the tube more thoroughly, because an oil film washes out of plastic more slowly. At the end of its life, the glass bottle belongs in glass recycling; the pump contains plastic and aluminium and is sorted separately.

You will find other closures with the same neck type and ready-made combinations of bottle and closure in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the black glass bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, black glossy glass does not transmit light, so the contents are protected from it. Oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, serums with vitamin C and products with essential oils are sensitive to light, and dark packaging helps them keep their scent and effect for longer. The downside is that you cannot see how much of the contents is left in the bottle.
How much fits in the 100 ml glass bottle with pump?
It is filled to a nominal volume of 100 ml. The physical brimful capacity is somewhat higher and is given in the parameters, but this difference leaves room for the pump tube and for the expansion of the contents. If you fill the bottle right up to the neck, part of the contents will be pushed out when the pump is fitted and the packaging will not seal.
Can the pump also be used for a thick cream?
The pump with a tube and a dose of approximately 0.14 ml is intended for thinner contents such as serums, oils and light emulsions. It may not draw up thick creams and balms, or it may dispense them unevenly. For medium viscosity, fill one bottle as a test and try the pump before you prepare the whole batch.
Is the glass bottle with pump suitable for food?
The set as a whole is not approved for food contact. The certificate for direct food contact applies only to the glass bottle on its own; the pump has no such declaration. The set of bottle and pump is intended for cosmetic products, for which it is declared as suitable.
How do I prepare the glass bottle with pump before filling?
Wash the bottle and the pump, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Rinse the pump tube separately, because water easily remains in it. Fill the contents only after they have cooled to room temperature. Fit the pump and press it several times so that the tube fills and the first dose comes out in full.
Is the glass bottle with pump suitable for both water-based and oil-based contents?
Yes, glass is suitable for water-based, alcohol-based and oil-based products. The plastic pump is declared for cosmetic use. With oil blends containing a higher proportion of essential oils, or with alcohol-based toners, check the tightness and the behaviour of the plastic parts in the finished formulation before you fill the whole batch.
