Product description

The cotton wick is a practical and eco-friendly addition to the packaging range for both home and professional candle-making projects. It is suitable for pouring into various types of containers – from glass jars and pots to decorative bottles or other designer containers intended for candle production. Thanks to the use of cotton, it ensures stable burning and is suitable for use with several types of waxes, depending on the specific formulation and the manufacturer’s tests.

Possible uses

  • handmade candles in glass jars, pots and containers
  • candle production in recycled packaging (e.g. repurposed bottles and medicine vials)
  • aromatherapeutic candles with essential oils and fragrance compositions
  • decorative candles in designer glasses, ceramic containers and other creative packaging
  • testing your own wax blends in smaller pots and trial containers

Packaging advantages

  • Natural material – the cotton wick creates a stable flame and is compatible with several types of wax (soy, beeswax, paraffin and blended waxes – we always recommend your own tests).
  • Predictable burning – with the correct choice of wick thickness relative to the container diameter and type of wax, it is possible to achieve even melting of the candle surface.
  • Universal use in containers – suitable for candles in bottles, jars, pots and decorative containers, which serve as the final “packaging” of the finished product.
  • Easy trimming and adjustment – the wick can be adapted to the specific height of the container and the type of candle.

Combining with closures and dispensers

  • The cotton wick is most often used in containers without a closure while burning, but for storing finished candles it is possible to use lids and closures suitable for the given jar or bottle.
  • When making candles in packaging from the Handymade range, it is advisable to choose containers with a sufficiently wide opening for safe burning and convenient wick trimming.
  • Combinations of packaging and closures that are created directly at Handymade are tested and functional. However, for all combinations we always recommend performing your own compatibility test (sealing, dosing and behaviour of the packaging in contact with the specific formulation).

Technical parameters

  • All technical parameters of the packaging are given in the attached packaging quality certificate and in the product parameters.
  • When selecting the wick, always consider the diameter and shape of the container, the type of wax, and the presence of colourants and fragrances in order to achieve safe and even burning.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right cotton wick for my candle container?

The choice of wick depends on the container diameter, the type of wax and any proportion of fragrances or colourants. In general, wider jars and pots require a thicker wick or several wicks side by side so that the wax melts evenly right up to the edges. We recommend starting by testing on a smaller series of candles and monitoring the flame size, burn rate and any smoke formation until you find the optimal combination for your specific container and formulation.

Is this cotton wick also suitable for glass bottles and medicine vials from the Handymade range?

The cotton wick can also be used in glass bottles, medicine vials and other containers that can withstand the temperature of candle burning and have a stable base. It is important that the container has a sufficiently wide opening, is placed on a non-combustible, level surface and is suitable for long-term exposure to elevated temperature. Before regular use, we recommend performing trial burns and monitoring whether the glass is not overheating and the candle is burning safely.

Can I use this wick repeatedly or trim it during the candle’s lifetime?

The cotton wick is intended for single use within one candle, but during the candle’s lifetime it is advisable to trim it regularly to the recommended length (usually 3–5 mm) before each subsequent lighting. This will improve burn quality, reduce smoking and prevent excessive enlargement of the flame. After the candle has burned down, the wick is not intended for reuse in a new product, as it is mechanically and thermally worn.

You offer many types of packaging – how do I find the right one for my product?

To select a suitable bottle, jar or pot, you can use the extended filter in the packaging material categories. The extended filter is located in the upper part of the page after clicking on the selected category and allows you to sort the offer according to several parameters such as neck type, size, colour or packaging material. Thanks to this, you can quickly find a container precisely tailored to the type of your product – whether it is a cosmetic, a candle or another creative product.

How should I correctly prepare the container and the wick before pouring the wax?

The container should be clean, dry and free of dust or residues from previous products. It is advisable to fix the wick to the centre of the bottom (for example using a metal or adhesive base) and stabilise the top of the wick with a holder so that it remains in the centre of the container while the wax is setting. The wax temperature when pouring should correspond to the wax manufacturer’s recommendations, so that you avoid cracks and surface irregularities and at the same time maintain correct wick burning.
