Product description
The amber glass medicine bottle, type B, with pump is a ready-made packaging solution for serums, facial oils and concentrated active blends in a small 10 ml size. Amber glass filters light and protects contents that are sensitive to oxidation, for example oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids or serums with vitamin C. The glossy white and gold pump releases a small, repeatable amount with each press. Concentrated products, of which only a few drops are used at a time, are therefore dispensed precisely and without scooping with a finger.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics. Only the glass bottle on its own has a certificate for direct contact with food; the set as a whole, including the pump, is intended for cosmetic products.
What the set is suitable for
- Facial and eye serums – both water-based and oil-based, where one or two pumps per application are enough.
- Facial oils and oil blends – amber glass slows down yellowing and rancidity of oils, and the pump dispenses more precisely than pouring from the neck.
- Samples and travel sizes – the small volume and the medicine bottle shape suit trial versions of formulations or gift sets.
- Topical products – gels or liquid creams for the eye contour, lips or nail beds, as long as they have a consistency that the pump can draw.
The pump is designed for liquid and slightly viscous contents. Thick creams, balms or products with solid particles (scrub granules, undissolved pearlescent pigments) will not pass through it or will clog it. If the viscosity is borderline, fill one unit as a test and check whether the pump still draws after several days.
Filling and dispensing
The nominal volume is the amount the packaging is designed for under normal filling. The brim-full volume is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference between the two values is a reserve for the dip tube and the body of the pump, and also space for contents that expand slightly when the temperature changes. Therefore, fill up to the nominal volume, never to the brim, otherwise part of the contents will be pushed out through the thread when the pump is screwed on.
The dip tube of the pump is supplied longer than the medicine bottle is tall. Before the first assembly, shorten it with a sharp knife or scissors so that it reaches just above the bottom of the bottle and does not bend. A tube that is too long kinks at the bottom and the pump stops drawing.
After filling, screw the pump on straight and tighten it by hand. Pumping it several times without product primes the system and it starts to dispense. The first doses are often smaller until the tube fills with the contents.
Good to know
Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with alcohol and let it drain; do not soak it for a long time. The glass withstands repeated cleaning and hot water. However, it tolerates a sudden change of temperature poorly, for example hot water poured into a cold bottle.
Amber glass protects the contents from light. It does not protect them from air; with each press the pump draws air into the bottle. For oils prone to oxidation, therefore, add an antioxidant, for example tocopherol or rosemary extract, and preserve water-based formulations properly. The small pack size helps here, as the contents are used up before they have time to oxidise significantly.
The pump contains plastic parts made of PP and a glossy aluminium part. For products with a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or other solvents, check in a filled unit that neither the glossy layer nor the inner mechanism changes over time.
After it has been emptied and washed, the glass bottle can be reused. Replace the pump with a new one after longer use, especially if oil residues have remained in it. When sorting waste, glass belongs with glass; unscrew the pump, which is made of mixed materials, and dispose of it separately.
Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you combine the bottle with a different closure, check the tightness, the dispensing and the behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.
