Product description

Liquid serums, facial oils and light emulsions are dispensed from this small medicine bottle by pressing the pump, without pouring and without fingers touching the contents. The clear PET bottle with a nominal volume of 10 ml shows the product and how much of it is left, is lightweight and does not break when dropped. It is therefore suitable for samples, travel packs and trial batches of new formulations that you want to test in the same type of packaging in which they will later be sold. The pump in a glossy white and gold finish releases the same small dose with every press, so the customer always applies approximately the same amount. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suitable for

  • Facial serums and fluids – both water-based and oil-based; the pump measures out roughly the amount that is applied to the face.
  • Oil blends – facial oils, cuticle or eyebrow oils, blends with essential oils in common cosmetic concentrations.
  • Samples and travel packs – the contents last for several weeks of serum use and take up little space in a cosmetic bag.
  • Testing formulations – a small batch with a pump shows whether the formulation pumps well and how it behaves in the packaging, before a larger quantity is made.

The pump does not draw up thick creams, butters and balms. Jars or packaging with a wide neck are more suitable for these.

How to work with the set

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump, rinse them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. The pump’s dip tube is supplied longer than the bottle is tall. Before fitting the pump, cut the tube at an angle so that it reaches just to the bottom. The pump then draws up the contents almost without residue.

Fill up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. Up to the neck it physically holds slightly more, but this difference is a reserve for the submerged tube and the pump body and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. If the bottle is overfilled, part of the product is pushed out through the thread when the pump is screwed on and the packaging may leak.

After filling, prime the pump by pressing it several times until the dip tube and the head fill with the contents. Only then does it dispense evenly. You will find the volume of one dose in the parameters, which is useful when writing the instructions for use.

Do not fill the bottle with a hot mixture. Let the emulsion or oil blend cool to room temperature before filling.

Good to know

  • Light – clear PET does not protect the contents from light. Store light-sensitive formulations, for example oils prone to oxidation or some vitamins and extracts, in the dark or choose an amber glass bottle for them.
  • Compatibility with the contents – PET and PP normally tolerate water-based solutions, vegetable oils and emulsions. With a high proportion of essential oils, alcohol or other solvents, we recommend checking the behaviour of the packaging with the specific formulation. Over several weeks, monitor the tightness, the appearance of the bottle and the flow through the pump.
  • Preservation – the pump limits contact of the contents with fingers, but it does not replace a preservative. Water-based and emulsion leave-on products must be preserved regardless of the type of packaging.
  • Reuse – the bottle and the pump can be used again after thorough washing and drying. The cleaning procedure is described in the questions below.
  • Other closures – the bottle alone can also be combined with other closures with the same neck type, which is given in the parameters. You will find ready-made combinations in the Handymade range; if you make your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with the specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the pump combines plastic with aluminium, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact. The pump does not have one, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics, not for household oils, syrups or other foods.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clear PET bottle with a pump protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. The set is suitable for formulations that are not affected by light, or for products that are used up quickly, for example samples. For oils prone to oxidation and light-sensitive active ingredients, keep the bottle in a box or a drawer, or choose amber glass.
How much fits into a 10 ml medicine bottle with a pump?
The bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 10 ml. Up to the neck it holds slightly more, but the space above this limit is a reserve for the tube and the pump body and for the expansion of the contents. If it is filled to the brim, part of the product is pushed out around the thread when the pump is screwed on and the packaging may leak.
Can the pump be used for an oil serum and for a water-based toner?
Yes, the pump draws up water-based liquids, oils and light emulsions. It does not draw up thicker creams, for which a jar is more suitable. With blends containing a high proportion of essential oils or alcohol, we recommend monitoring for several weeks whether the packaging stays tight and the pump remains free-flowing. Water-based products must be preserved.
Is a plastic medicine bottle with a pump suitable for food, for example kitchen oil?
The set as a whole is not. Only the bottle on its own has a certificate for direct food contact; the pump does not have one, so the combination of the bottle with this pump is declared for cosmetic products only. For food use, you would need to choose a closure that also has a food-contact certificate.
How do you clean the bottle with a pump before reuse?
Wash the bottle with warm water and detergent, rinse it with ethanol or isopropyl alcohol and leave it to dry with the neck facing down. Pump warm water with detergent through the pump and then clean water, so that no oil residues remain in the mechanism that could eventually clog it. Both parts must be completely dry before the next filling.
Why does the pump not dispense straight after filling?
During the first presses the dip tube and the head are only filling with the contents, and the product does not come out yet. A few priming presses are enough. If it does not dispense even after that, check that the tube reaches the bottom and is not kinked, and that the pump is screwed on straight.
