Product description

The plastic 50 ml bottle with pump combines a lightweight clear PET medicine bottle with a glossy white and gold pump on an 18/415 neck finish. The finished set suits cosmetic products of liquid to medium-thick consistency that are applied in small amounts: facial serums, light emulsions, face and hair oils, travel-size body lotions and liquid cleansing products. The pump dispenses roughly the same amount with each press, and the contents do not touch your fingers during use, which helps keep the filling clean in leave-on products.

Clear PET shows the colour and amount of the contents, does not break and weighs little, so the set is often chosen for samples, travel kits or bathroom products where glass would be a risk. The pump combines plastic and aluminium in a glossy white and gold finish. The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics.

What the set is suited for

  • Facial serums and light emulsions – a small dose from the pump matches the amount for one application to the face, and you do not dispense more than you need.
  • Face, hair and body oils – oil from the pump does not drip down the walls of the bottle and can be measured precisely into the palm.
  • Liquid cleansing products and lotions – cleansing milks, cleansing gels or liquid soap in a small pack, as long as they are liquid in consistency.
  • Samples and travel packs – the small volume and unbreakable material suit testing formulations as well as packing in a handbag or suitcase.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is intended for in normal filling. The brimful volume is slightly larger, because it is measured up to the neck. The difference is a reserve for the pump dip tube, which takes up part of the space once the pump is screwed on. Fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is filled completely, the contents will overflow when the pump is fitted, or the pump will not screw on properly.

Filling and handling the pump

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the pump in warm water, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave them to dry completely. We recommend pumping clean water through the pump and then pumping it dry several times, so that any residues run out of the dip tube and the mechanism.

Emulsions and gels are filled only after they have cooled to room temperature. Do not pour a hot phase straight from the pot into a PET bottle, as the bottle could deform. Filling is easier with a small funnel or a syringe without a needle, and for thicker emulsions with a bag with a corner cut off. After screwing on the pump, press it several times until the dip tube fills and the first dose comes out.

One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml. For a facial serum, one to two presses are usually enough; for a body lotion or an oil for the whole body, expect to need more. This figure is worth stating in the instructions for use of the finished product.

The pump is built for liquid and medium-thick fillings. Thick creams, balms, butters or products with scrub particles will not pass through the pump or will clog it. For an emulsion at the limit of thickness, we recommend a test with a small amount. If the pump dispenses the contents evenly even after standing for several days, the consistency is suitable.

Clear PET does not protect the contents from light. Store light-sensitive products, for example oils with a higher proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin C or blends with essential oils, out of direct light, or choose dark packaging. The bottle is not intended for aggressive chemicals. With a high proportion of alcohol, solvents or undiluted essential oils, check how the material behaves with your specific formulation.

Good to know

  • Food contact – the certificate for direct contact with food applies to the bottle alone. The pump does not have it, so the set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. For home-made oils or syrups, choose a bottle with a different closure.
  • Residue at the bottom – the dip tube does not reach the very bottom, so the pump cannot draw out part of the contents. You can unscrew it and pour out or use up the remainder in another way.
  • Reuse – after washing and disinfection, the bottle can be used again. The pump is harder to clean on the inside, so use it repeatedly for the same type of product, and before a new filling pump clean water through it and leave it to dry.
  • Other closures – the bottle has a G18 neck, and other closures with the same neck type from the Handymade range can also be fitted. For your own combination, check the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
  • Recycling – an empty, rinsed bottle belongs with plastics according to the material code PET 1. Besides plastic, the pump also contains aluminium, so separate it from the bottle and sort it separately.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 50 ml plastic bottle with pump suitable for a facial serum?
Yes, facial serums and light emulsions are among the most common uses of this bottle. The pump dispenses approximately 0.14 ml per press, which matches the amount for one application to the face, and the contents do not touch your fingers during dispensing. Store a serum with light-sensitive ingredients in a clear bottle in the dark, or choose dark packaging.
Can a thick cream or balm be dispensed through the pump?
No, the pump is intended for liquid and medium-thick fillings. Thick creams, butters and balms will not be drawn up by the mechanism or will clog it, and the same applies to products with scrub particles. For an emulsion of medium thickness, a test with a small amount helps, along with a check that the pump dispenses evenly even after several days.
Does the clear PET bottle protect the contents from light?
No, clear PET lets light through and does not protect the contents from it. The advantage is that you can see the colour and amount of the contents. For oils prone to oxidation, vitamin C or products with essential oils, it is better to store the bottle out of direct light or to choose dark packaging.
Can I use the plastic bottle with pump for food, for example cooking oil?
The set as a whole is not intended for food. The certificate for direct contact with food applies to the bottle alone, and the pump does not have it. For food use, a bottle with a different closure is therefore suitable; the combination with the pump is intended for cosmetic products.
How much filling fits into the 50 ml plastic bottle with pump?
The bottle is intended for 50 ml of filling, which is its nominal volume. Physically, slightly more fits up to the neck, but this space is a reserve for the pump dip tube. If it is filled to the brim, the contents will overflow when the pump is fitted, so fill only up to the nominal volume.
