Product description
Dark glass and a dispenser solve two problems at once for serums and oils: light and hygiene. The set consists of a glass bottle in the shape of a medicine vial with a glossy black finish and a plastic pump dispenser in a glossy white-gold design. The nominal volume of the bottle is 100 ml. It is suitable for liquid and medium-viscosity cosmetic preparations dispensed in small amounts: facial and hair serums, cosmetic oils, light fluids and lotions.
Black glass is opaque, so it protects the contents from light. This is particularly important for oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin C, retinol or essential oils — substances sensitive to light and oxidation. The dispenser allows the product to be dispensed without unscrewing the cap and without finger contact with the contents, which is more hygienic than scooping from an open container.
The set is declared as suitable for contact with cosmetics and is intended for cosmetic preparations.
Key advantages
- Light protection – opaque black glass prevents light from reaching the contents and helps slow the degradation of sensitive ingredients that daylight would accelerate in clear glass.
- Hygienic dispensing – the dispenser releases the same small dose with each press, the contents do not spill and no contaminants from hands enter the bottle.
- Precise dispensing of small amounts – one press corresponds to the amount typical for serums and oils applied to the skin drop by drop.
- Chemically stable glass – glass does not react with oils, essential oils or alcohol-based ingredients and does not allow fragrances or oxygen to pass through its walls.
- Finished product appearance – glossy black glass with a white-gold dispenser looks like a final retail packaging and holds a label well.
What the set is suitable for
The dispenser works reliably with contents that flow freely or have the consistency of a light emulsion. Particularly suitable are:
- Facial and hair serums – water-based and oil-based, where a small precise dose is valued.
- Cosmetic oils and oil blends – oils for face, body, beard or cuticles; dark glass extends their freshness.
- Light fluids and lotions – facial fluids, body lotions of thinner consistency, light O/W moisturising emulsions.
- Liquid cleansing preparations – cleansing oils, micellar preparations or liquid cleansing gels that are not too thick.
Thick creams, ointments, balms, butters and preparations with solid particles (scrubs, preparations with powder ingredients) will not pass through the dispenser or will clog it. For these, pots or containers with a wide neck are more suitable.
Filling and volume
Nominal volume is the amount for which the bottle is intended during standard filling. Total volume to the rim is the physical volume up to the neck and is slightly larger. The difference provides a reserve for the tube and the body of the dispenser, which occupy part of the space once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. The bottle should therefore be filled to the nominal volume, not to the rim. The exact values of both volumes are listed in the specifications.
Before fitting the dispenser, compare the length of the tube with the inner height of the bottle. If the tube is longer, shorten it with an angled cut so that it ends just above the bottom. A tube pressed against the bottom may kink and the dispenser will then fail to draw up the contents.
What is good to know
- Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and allow to dry completely. Pump clean water or ethanol through the dispenser several times and allow it to dry.
- Priming the dispenser – after filling and screwing on, several presses are needed before the tube fills up and the dispenser starts dispensing. This is normal behaviour, not a defect.
- Content viscosity – if the preparation is on the borderline at which the dispenser can still pump, test dispensing on a small sample before filling the entire batch. With light emulsions, viscosity may increase further in the days after production.
- Essential oils and solvents – glass is resistant to them. The plastic parts of the dispenser withstand standard cosmetic dispensing; however, for contents with a high proportion of essential oils or solvents, we recommend checking the dispenser's behaviour over time.
- Glass and heat – do not fill with hot contents; a sudden temperature change may damage the glass. Allow the preparation to cool to room temperature before filling.
- Labelling – the smooth glossy surface of the glass holds self-adhesive labels well. A light or metallic label stands out well on black glass.
- Reuse – the bottle can be refilled repeatedly after thorough washing and disinfection. Flush the dispenser by pumping clean water and ethanol through it; if residue remains or the pump stiffens, replace it.
- Transport – when travelling with a filled set, check for leaks and transport the bottle in an upright position.
- Recycling – when disposing of the set, separate the dispenser from the bottle. The bottle goes with glass, the dispenser is a combination of plastic and aluminium and is recycled separately.
The set is not intended for food. The glass bottle alone has a food contact certificate; the dispenser does not. For home-made oils or syrups, use the bottle with a different closure that is approved for food contact.
If you want a different closure on the bottle instead of a dispenser, closures with the same neck type as listed in the specifications are suitable. Further ready-made combinations of bottles and closures can be found in the Handymade range. With a custom combination, we recommend verifying the seal and dispensing with the specific formulation.
