Product description

The amber plastic medicine bottle, 30 ml, with a pump is designed for filling with serums, facial oils, fluids and light emulsions that are applied in small amounts. The amber-tinted PET reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, which is useful for oils and serums containing ingredients sensitive to sunlight. The plastic is light and unbreakable, so the set suits a make-up bag, customer samples or sale at markets.

The black and gold glossy pump with a clear smoky overcap gives a small bottle the look of a finished retail product. Both parts have the same neck type, so the pump fits the bottle without an adapter and you do not need to look for a closure with the right thread.

How the set works

The pump screws onto the neck. One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml of the contents, which corresponds to the usual amount of serum for a single application to the face. A full bottle therefore gives, as a rough guide, more than two hundred presses. The contents are used up slowly and without your fingers touching the neck.

The tube draws the contents up from the bottom and the head delivers them to your palm or straight onto your fingertips. The smoky overcap protects the head from dust and prevents accidental pressing while the bottle is carried. The metal part of the pump is aluminium, and the rest of the body is made of PP.

The pump tube is longer than this bottle requires. Before screwing it on for the first time, shorten it with a diagonal cut so that it reaches just to the bottom. Otherwise the pump cannot be tightened fully and some of the contents will not be drawn up. After filling, press the head several times without dispensing until the system is primed.

What it is suitable for

  • Facial serums and fluids – contents with low to medium viscosity pass smoothly through the tube, and a small dose saves the active ingredients.
  • Oil serums and oil blends – for the face, beard or cuticles, where dosing is by the drop and the dark packaging protects the oil from light.
  • Light emulsions and lotions – thinner creams and facial lotions that the head can still push through.
  • Samples and travel sizes – 30 ml is enough for trying out a formulation or for several weeks of use while travelling.

The pump cannot cope with thick creams, butters and solid gels. They remain in the tube or the head jams, and a jar or a bottle with a cap is more suitable for them. Watery contents, for example hydrosols or toners, are dispensed better with a sprayer on the same neck type.

Nominal volume and filling

The stated 30 ml is the nominal volume, that is, the amount the bottle is intended to hold under normal filling. Physically, slightly more fits in up to the neck. This difference forms a reserve for the tube and the pump body, which take up part of the interior once screwed on, and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. Therefore, fill up to the nominal volume. If you fill to the brim, the contents will overflow when the pump is screwed on.

Filling, hygiene and safety

The set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. The declaration of suitability for contact with cosmetics and the certificate for direct food contact apply to the bottle itself. The pump does not have such an assessment, so do not use the set for food, edible oils or herbal infusions. You will find the declarations of conformity for both parts with the product.

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and leave it to dry completely. Rinse the pump by pumping clean water through it and then alcohol, and leave it to drain with the head facing up. Fill the contents only after they have cooled to room temperature. PET is not intended for hot filling and deforms with heat.

For formulations with a high proportion of essential oils, fragrance compositions or solvents, check how the packaging behaves with your specific formulation. The plastic may react to aggressive ingredients with a change in surface, an odour or a leaking head. For your own test, leave the filled set to stand for several weeks and then inspect it.

After washing and disinfection, an empty bottle can be refilled. The internal mechanism of the pump cannot be taken apart and thoroughly cleaned, so reuse it only for the same type of product. You can find closures with the same neck type and other ready-made combinations of packaging and closure in the Handymade range. For your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.

The bottle is made of PET and goes in plastic recycling. The pump combines PP with an aluminium part, so before disposal unscrew it from the bottle and dispose of it separately.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amber plastic medicine bottle, 30 ml, protect the contents from light?
Yes, amber PET dampens light and reduces the amount reaching the contents compared with a clear bottle. For oils and serums containing ingredients sensitive to sunlight, it is a better choice than clear packaging. The tint does not replace correct storage, however, so do not leave the filled set in direct sunlight or near a heat source.
Can a thick cream be dispensed through the pump on this plastic medicine bottle?
No, the pump is intended for serums, oils, fluids and light emulsions with low to medium viscosity. A thick cream or butter will remain in the tube and the head will jam after a few presses. For thicker textures choose a jar or a bottle with a cap, and for watery contents such as a hydrosol, a sprayer is more suitable.
How many doses does a 30 ml plastic medicine bottle with a pump give?
One press dispenses approximately 0.14 ml, so a full bottle gives, as a rough guide, more than two hundred doses. The exact number depends on the viscosity of the contents and on whether you press the head all the way down. With thicker emulsions the dose tends to be slightly smaller, and the first few presses after filling only serve to draw the contents into the tube.
Can I fill the plastic medicine bottle with a pump with food or edible oil?
No, the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic products. The certificate for direct food contact applies to the bottle alone, and the pump does not have one. If you need packaging for edible oil, syrup or a herbal infusion, use a bottle with a closure that has declared suitability for food.
Is the amber PET medicine bottle suitable for contents with alcohol or essential oils?
With a high proportion of essential oils, fragrance compositions or solvents, first check how the PET bottle behaves with your specific formulation. The packaging should not be exposed to aggressive chemicals, which can damage the plastic or cause the pump head to leak. Leave the filled set to stand for several weeks and watch for changes in surface, fragrance and tightness.
