Product description

This amber plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a capacity of 30 ml and an aluminium cap is used for filling smaller amounts of face serums, face and hair oils, extracts or cosmetic samples. The amber colour of the PET reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so the bottle is also suitable for formulations with light-sensitive ingredients, such as vegetable oils, vitamins or essential oils at a low usage rate. The plastic is light and shatterproof, which comes in handy when sending samples, selling at markets or packing for travel. The silver aluminium cap with an 18 mm thread closes the bottle and can be opened repeatedly. The contents are dispensed directly from the neck by pouring or dripping.

What the set is suitable for

  • Face and hair oils – the dark packaging slows the effect of light on oils prone to yellowing, and the small volume is used up before the oil changes its odour.
  • Serums and toners in small batches – the 30 ml volume corresponds to a usual trial batch for testing a formulation before larger production.
  • Samples and testers – a light bottle with a flat cap is easy to send and hand out, and it will not break in an envelope or a bag.
  • Travel size – you can pour an ordinary product from a larger pack into a 30 ml pharmaceutical bottle, which you can wash and reuse when you get back.
  • Alcoholic and hydroalcoholic extracts – with a higher alcohol content, check in advance how the bottle and the cap seal behave with your specific contents.

Cap and seal

The aluminium cap has an inner sealing liner made of EPE, foamed polyethylene. When tightened, it presses against the neck of the bottle and prevents leakage and air access. Tightening by hand is enough. The contents are poured or dripped from the pharmaceutical bottle directly through the neck, as the cap has no dispensing element. Closures with the same neck type and other ready-made bottle and closure combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you choose your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness, dispensing and behaviour of the packaging with your specific formulation.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the volume the packaging is intended for under normal filling. The brimful capacity is the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference between them forms a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. The pharmaceutical bottle is therefore filled to the nominal 30 ml, not to the brim. If it is filled up to the neck, the contents splash out when the bottle is closed or get into the thread, and the cap then does not seal.

Let hot mixtures cool to at least room temperature before filling. PET softens at higher temperatures and the bottle may deform. For the same reason, do not wash it with hot water.

Good to know

Before the first filling, wash the bottle and the cap, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. No residual water should get into an oil-based product.

Concentrated essential oils and solvents can damage plastic over the long term. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils or with solvents, test the behaviour of the packaging on one bottle before filling the whole batch. The packaging is not intended for contact with aggressive chemicals.

The set of bottle and cap is declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the declaration of conformity and certificates are provided with the product. The plastic pharmaceutical bottle alone has a certificate for direct food contact; the aluminium cap does not. The set as a whole is therefore intended for cosmetics.

The bottle withstands repeated use after thorough washing and disinfection. If the sealing liner in the cap loses its elasticity or soaks up its previous contents, replace the cap. At the end of its life, the PET bottle is sorted as plastic and the aluminium cap separately as metal.

The bottle is of European origin and both components have undergone a conformity assessment under the packaging regulation. This simplifies the documentation for manufacturers who place their products on the market.

Frequently asked questions

Does the 30 ml amber plastic pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Yes, the amber colour of the PET reduces the amount of light reaching the contents, so the bottle is suitable for oils, serums and extracts with light-sensitive ingredients. It is not a complete barrier, however, so even an amber pharmaceutical bottle should be stored out of direct sunlight. For products stored for a long time with sensitive active ingredients, it is advisable to verify the stability in the packaging.
Is the plastic pharmaceutical bottle with an aluminium cap suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for food contact. The plastic pharmaceutical bottle alone has a certificate for direct food contact; the aluminium cap does not. A bottle with this cap is therefore intended for cosmetic products, for which both components are declared suitable.
Can an oil with essential oils be filled into a PET pharmaceutical bottle?
Yes, at the usual cosmetic usage rate of essential oils in a vegetable oil, a PET pharmaceutical bottle is used without problems. However, pure essential oils and solvents can damage the plastic over the long term. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils, test the packaging on one bottle before filling the whole batch, and watch whether the bottle or the seal changes.
How do I prepare a plastic pharmaceutical bottle before the first filling?
Wash the bottle and the cap in lukewarm water with washing-up liquid, rinse, disinfect with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely with the neck facing down. Do not use hot water, as PET softens at higher temperatures. The same procedure applies when the bottle is reused.
Why is the pharmaceutical bottle not filled to the brim?
The pharmaceutical bottle is filled to the nominal volume of 30 ml, and the space above it is a reserve for the cap and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If it is filled up to the neck, the contents splash out when the bottle is closed or run into the thread, and the sealing liner then does not sit tightly. The brimful capacity of the bottle is therefore always somewhat larger than the nominal volume.
