Product description

For serums, facial fluids and light emulsions that are applied in small amounts, a pharmaceutical bottle with a pump is a better choice than a bottle with a screw cap. The white 50 ml pharmaceutical bottle with a glossy black and gold pump with a smoky overcap delivers the same small dose with every press, and the contents never touch your fingers. The bottle is light and shatter-resistant, and the white wall lets through less light than clear plastic, so it is also suitable for formulations with light-sensitive ingredients.

The set as a whole is intended for cosmetics. The declaration of suitability for contact with cosmetic products and for direct contact with food applies to the bottle alone. The pump does not have such a declaration, so the assembly is not used for food, and the declared suitability for cosmetics applies to the bottle.

What it is suitable for

  • Serums and facial fluids – water-based and gel serums with low viscosity pass through the pump without difficulty, and one dose corresponds to the amount needed for a single application.
  • Light emulsions – facial milks, fluids for the eye area and décolleté, or light creams that the dip tube can draw up.
  • Oil serums and blends of vegetable oils – a small dose makes it easier to dispense more expensive oils sparingly.
  • Travel and trial size – a volume of 50 ml is enough for a customer sample or for testing a formulation before a larger batch.

Thick creams, body butters, high-viscosity gels and products with scrub particles do not pass easily through this pump or may clog the valve. Jars or bottles with a wider neck are more suitable for such textures.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume of 50 ml is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The brimful volume is the physical volume up to the neck and is somewhat larger. The difference leaves room for the dip tube and the body of the pump and for the expansion of the contents when the temperature changes. For this reason, fill to the nominal volume, not to the brim. If the bottle is overfilled, the contents are pushed out through the neck when the pump is screwed on and soil the thread.

Preparation and filling

Before the first filling, wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry completely. It is enough to rinse the pump with clean water by pressing it several times and then let it drain. Fill the contents only after they have cooled, as PET is deformed by heat.

The dip tube of the pump is longer than the height of the bottle. Before fitting it, shorten it with a slanted cut so that it ends just above the bottom. The slanted cut prevents the tube from sticking to the bottom, which would stop the pump from drawing.

After the pump is screwed on, press the head several times until the tube fills and the first dose comes out. Then put the smoky overcap back on. It protects the head from dust and from accidental pressing during transport.

Good to know

  • PET and aggressive ingredients – the bottle is not intended for aggressive chemicals. For undiluted essential oils, fragrance oils in high concentrations and solvents, we recommend testing the behaviour of the bottle wall and the pump seal in your specific formulation several weeks in advance.
  • Viscosity of the contents – the pump is designed for liquid to slightly thickened products. If the pump draws with difficulty or pushes out air when pressed, the contents are too thick.
  • Cleanliness during filling – fill the narrow neck through a funnel or from a bottle with a dropper so that the contents do not get onto the thread. Residues on the thread impair the seal.
  • Reuse – after washing and disinfection, the bottle can be filled again. Clean the pump by pumping warm water and then air through it, and do not leave the metal parts soaking for long.
  • Other closures – closures with the same neck finish and other ready-made combinations can be found in the Handymade range. If you make your own combination, we recommend checking the tightness and dispensing with your specific formulation.
  • Recycling – the bottle is made of PET and the pump combines PP and aluminium, so separate the pump from the bottle before disposal.

Only the bottle has a food-contact certificate. Do not use the assembly with the pump for edible oils, syrups or other foods.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 50 ml plastic pharmaceutical bottle with a pump suitable for food?
No, the set as a whole is not approved for contact with food. The white PET bottle on its own has a declaration of suitability for direct contact with food, while the pump does not have such a declaration. The assembly with the pump is therefore intended for cosmetics and is not used for food.
What kind of contents can be dispensed well from the 50 ml pharmaceutical bottle with a pump?
Liquid and slightly thickened products work best: water-based and gel serums, facial fluids, light emulsions and vegetable oils. When pressed, the pump delivers a small amount that corresponds to one application on the face. Thick creams, butters and products with particles are pumped poorly and may clog the valve, so a jar or a bottle with a wider neck is better for them.
Does the white PET pharmaceutical bottle protect the contents from light?
Partially, as the white wall lets through less light than clear plastic. For formulations with oils prone to oxidation or with sensitive active ingredients, this is an advantage over a clear bottle. No packaging can guarantee complete protection from light, so store the filled bottle away from direct sunlight as well.
Can the pharmaceutical bottle with a pump be reused?
Yes, both the bottle and the pump can be used again. Wash the bottle, disinfect it with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let it dry. Clean the pump by pumping warm water and then air through it so that no old contents remain in the tube. If you change the formulation, we recommend replacing the pump, as oil residues in the valve are difficult to remove.
Is the PET pharmaceutical bottle suitable for oil serums with essential oils?
The bottle can be used without difficulty for oil serums with typical usage rates of essential oils. Undiluted essential oils and high concentrations of fragrance oils are among the aggressive ingredients, for which we recommend checking in advance whether they soften the bottle wall or the pump seal. A trial bottle set aside for several weeks will show whether the packaging withstands the formulation.
