Baking soda (also known as E500ii) or sodium hydrogen carbonate is a white alkaline powder that has wide use not only in the household, for cooking and cleaning, but also for the production of cosmetic products.

It is used in toothpastes, solid deodorants, bath fizzies, peelings/scrubs, laundry powders, etc. It is soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol.
