Product description

The blue glass bottle with a volume of 30 ml and a black glossy dropper is designed for preparations that are dispensed by the drop: facial serums, face and hair oils, essential oil blends in a carrier oil, or herbal tinctures. Coloured glass lets through less light than clear glass, so it suits contents that are sensitive to light, such as vegetable oils prone to oxidation. The bottle and the dropper have the same 18/410 neck finish, the set is supplied as a ready-made pair, and after washing and drying it can be filled straight away.

The shape of the pharmaceutical bottle with a narrow neck limits the access of air to the contents. The tip of the dropper reaches almost to the bottom, so even the last remainder of the preparation can be drawn up. Both components are declared suitable for contact with cosmetic products, and the set as a whole is intended for cosmetic use.

What the set includes

  • Blue glass bottle – a pharmaceutical bottle with a narrow neck and a nominal volume of 30 ml. Glass does not react with oils or alcohol solutions, does not absorb fragrance and withstands repeated washing.
  • Black glossy dropper – a glass tube with a tip, a silicone bulb, a glossy aluminium collar and a threaded part made of PP. The length of the dropper matches the height of the bottle; the tip does not touch the bottom but reaches almost to it.

Nominal and total volume

The nominal volume is the amount the bottle is designed for in normal filling. The total brimful volume is larger, because it expresses the physical volume of the bottle up to the neck. The difference is a reserve for the tube of the dropper, which raises the level once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with changes in temperature. For this reason, fill the bottle up to the nominal volume, not to the brim.

After filling, insert the dropper slowly and watch the level. If, once tightened, the level reaches the thread, there is too much content and it may run down the neck when the bottle is first opened.

What it is suitable for

The dropper draws up liquids of low to medium viscosity. It works well with face and hair oils, oil serums, thinner water-based and gel serums, alcohol tinctures and essential oil blends in a carrier oil.

Thicker gels, emulsions and creams are not drawn up by the dropper, or they run out of it slowly. For these textures, a bottle with a pump or a jar is more suitable.

Good to know

  • Preparation before first filling – wash the bottle and the dropper, disinfect them with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol and let them dry completely. Moisture trapped in the tube or the bulb would get into an anhydrous preparation.
  • Filling – with a narrow neck, a funnel or a filling syringe will help. Pour oil-based preparations slowly so that bubbles do not form along the wall.
  • Essential oils and solvents – the silicone bulb and the plastic threaded part come into contact with the contents only to a limited extent. For formulations with a higher proportion of essential oils or solvents, check the seal and the elasticity of the bulb after several weeks.
  • Repeated use – the glass can be used many times. Before filling again, take the dropper apart, rinse the tube with warm water or alcohol and let it dry. Replace a bulb that has hardened or lost its elasticity.
  • Sorting – the bottle belongs in glass recycling. The dropper is made up of several materials, so separate it from the bottle before disposal.

Do not pour hot mixtures into the glass bottle and do not expose it to a sudden change in temperature, for example by moving it from the refrigerator under hot water. Let the preparation cool to room temperature before filling.

Frequently asked questions

Does the blue glass bottle protect the contents from light?
The blue glass bottle lets through less light than clear glass, so it helps to slow down changes caused by light. It suits vegetable oils prone to oxidation and serums with light-sensitive active ingredients. It does not provide complete protection, so it is advisable to store the bottle out of direct sunlight. If the contents are meant to be visible, choose clear glass instead.
How much liquid fits in a 30 ml glass bottle with a dropper?
The 30 ml glass bottle with a dropper is designed for 30 ml of contents, although it can hold more up to the brim. The reserve above the nominal volume is needed for the tube of the dropper, which raises the level once screwed in, and for the expansion of the contents with temperature changes. If filled to the brim, the preparation would overflow once the dropper is fitted.
Can the glass bottle with a dropper be reused, and how is it cleaned?
Yes, both the glass bottle and the dropper withstand repeated use. Wash the bottle with warm water and a small amount of cleaning product, take the dropper apart and rinse the tube. Before filling again, disinfect both parts with alcohol and let them dry completely. Replace the silicone bulb when it loses its elasticity or changes colour.
Is the dropper suitable for both oils and alcohol tinctures?
Yes, both the glass tube of the dropper and the glass bottle withstand oils and alcohol solutions without change. The silicone bulb and the plastic threaded part come into contact with the contents only to a limited extent, but they may react over time with alcohol and essential oils. For preparations with a high proportion of essential oils, therefore, check the seal and the condition of the bulb after some time.
Does the black dropper also fit other glass bottles?
The black dropper has an 18/410 neck finish and fits any bottle with the same type of neck. However, its length is adapted to the height of this 30 ml pharmaceutical bottle. On a taller bottle the tip will not reach the bottom, and on a shorter one it would press against it. For other volumes, choose a dropper whose length matches the given bottle; you will find ready-made combinations in the Handymade range.
